buy more heating oil now?
from what i'm hearing on the biz channel on TV
the dollar is crashing and oil prices will be sky rocketing so i was thinkin better buy heating oil NOW and fill up the tank before summer time is that good strategy....? |
May is typically the lowest price for #2 oil.
Who the heck knows what oil is going to do, the skeptic in me says the price will stay high till the Big O needs a lower price to get reelected.... |
Just picked up the first of 5 tons of pellets. Yea it's going up alright. Will be on the bike alot this summer. Oil company has been removed from auto delivery not playing that game anymore.

I heat with wood, thankfully I get it for no charge to me or I'd be screwed. On the other hand....my truck i a deisel. Not so lucky there.

Raven as the DIY kind of guy you seem to be... I know someone who collects waste cooking oil, makes biodiesel and runs it in his furnace. The by product is glycerine he mixes it with sawdust in a mixer and makes bricks that someone with an outdoor furnace burns; hot and clean, probably too hot to burn in a stove.

good suggestion
but i am in a rental for the next 5 or 6 years
until the wife retires, I'm semi retired then we buy the much bigger farm so no wood choppin, chainsawing going on here someday i hope to own an outdoor furnace and i'll give that a try there was talk on the news last night (wolf blitzer) about making IRAQ repaying us in OIL for their freedom LYBIA too, so the price could suddenly drop dramatically I'm sure if OBAMA your MAMA could get the price of gas and oil to drop signifigantly he'd appear to be a HERO and be worshiped a second time. |
I think Americans are now reacting to high oil/gas prices much more than ever and much faster than ever. I think the reduced demand will help stabilize prices and despite what the doomsday people say , I think oil will go down again fairly quickly. I now use less than half the gas I did last year by buying a hybrid. I now use less than half the electricity I did 2 years ago by going flourescent and using 1 bulb where there once was 4 and by being faithful to turn things off. My natural gas bill dropoped almost 30% by installing a ventless gas heater in the room where I spend most of my time. Whole house is low but I am warm and toasty in my cave.
All this was comparatively easy and economical. i needed a new car so deciding on a hybrid did not cost me any more and in fact i got such a good deal after considering the energy rebate I think I spent less for the hybrid than I would have for any other vehicle I would have considered. The stove cost me $250 and I spent another $40 or so to pipe it in , etc. That stove paid for itself this one winter heater season. Flourescent bulbs are always on sale somewhere and they last so long you get your payback just in bulb life and the 2/3 energy saving is all gravy. All things considered , I think the oil producers have more to fear from Americans getting energy efficient than we have to fear from them and their Nash Bargaining cartel games. Time will tell but as I see it , the more they push , the more Americans convert to the energy conscious lifestyle. |
and so they should
spending a billion per week in Afghanistan
makes one think of frugality |

Green energy is only to promote wind farms which rotate at a frequency that hypnotizes the human brain and soften the gun loving middle America who might resist. Where are the wind farms? Case closed. Lock and load... -spence |
