Hobie cart recommendation
Which cart... Trax 2 with big soft wheels or hard wheels do you recommend... or is a homemade one just as good and much cheaper
|
Which Hobie? I have both Hobie carts for the Pro Angler, but I find the Trax with the Wheeleze soft tires a bit too low and the yak a bit too heavy. They're great for soft sand, but I find if I need the cart, I use the one with the taller harder wheels more. I trailer the Pro Angler though, so I don't need it a lot.

I call mine a trailer!:uhuh:

Anyone have plans for home made?
Also looking for plans for a home made roll up onto rack system. |
A lot of guys have trouble with the soft rolleez tires. They don't seem to last long and are expensive to replace. I now use the hobie Trax2 with the hard wheels and they work good. Don't get the trax1 cart it is too narrow and always wants to roll over. I also put a piece of pool noodle over the uprights to get the kayak up off the wheels a little and also for when I put the cart in the scupper holes for transport on the water they don't stick out the bottom.

I have a Revolution... so it sounds like Trax 2 with hard wheels or make one with hard wheels..
Anyone have a used one that they are not using... |
Here you can buy the wheels seperate if your making your own ...
Hobie Kayak Wheels - Sports & Outdoors - Compare Prices, Reviews and Buy at Nextag - Price - Review If you do make your own ,,nice to make them so they fit in the scuppers like the Hobies do .. These are the ones I bought ,,, not for soft sand but I walked my kayak about a mile on a cranberry bog road with these .. like walking the dog .. http://www.austinkayak.com/products/...t-Plug-In.html |
That's the same one I use.

I don't have a hobie, I have an old towne 14 and I am looking to drag the damn thing about 100 yards down a rocky path to a pond in the middle of river.

I have soft wheels for my hobie and have no complaints.. i can wheel it 2 blocks form my house and go for a paddle no problem. Id much rather have soft wheels going over any sort of terrain than hard wheels...
