Emblem pro line suggestions
 

What are you guys using on the emblem pros for braid?

Was thinking of going with daiwa samurai braid probably 55lb.

Reel will be used for the ditch 99% of the time.

I went with Samurai on the one i just bought from M&Ds. I went with the 40lb test.

50# plugs good and leaves room for a 40# leader. I still use pp. If ya go 40# braid you may be skimping on the leader end.

Good choice.

If you go with Samurai, they don't make 50lb test, only 55. But, the Samurai is thinner than PP so it's about equal to the PP 50 lb test. I'm going with it this year and using a 40 leader for plugging for the same reason Westportmafia mentioned.

Be aware that Samauri braid undertests. So choose your leader strength with that in mind. Not such a big concern for plugging, but if you jig, that stuff runs about 15-17 cents a yard, and it sucks every time that you leave 50 yards of it attached to a jig when the braid breaks before the leader (ask me how I know this :( ).

M&Ds now carries a FINS braid that's 8-weave thread, like Samauri, but a lot cheaper.

I have been extremely happy with my change from 50#pp to 40# Samurai. It creates so much less drag in the current in the ditch - was able to hold bottom longer with lighter jigs. I noticed that jigs hit the bottom a lot faster too, which makes it easier to time the drop into the sweet spots...

Seems fine for strength to battle a nice fish but I have noticed that I am not as successful freeing up from snags before you feel the dreaded pop.

I usually use the cabelas rip cord braid which is cheaper than most and I've been happy with it for the last three seasons.

This rod and reel combo will be ditch only use for the most part.

Will be plugging and throwing tins with it.

Want to get the most out of the reel and the most distance too.

I got the new suffix 832 40# for my emblem. Circlular line and smaller diameter gives better castin distance. I've only tested it out but i was bombing an un-loaded redfin on a 10' 6' med heavy action. I was real impressed with it, can't wait to really fish it

I have 30 lb. Fireline which tests out at like 50 lb. I believe. It has worked great on that reel for a while now.

I use 20 lb samurai braid with a 14foot Bimini to cast off of.

I only use my Emblem for plugging in the canal. Use 30# sufix performance braid. Switching over to the sufix 832 braid this year.

Do you mean you tie a Bimini in your running line? And tie direct to the braid or are you maintaining a 14 ft double with the Bimini and leadering to that? Or is the 14 ft a reference to a boat? I have tried the Bimini in the surf but maintaining a 14 foot loop would drive me nuts I thinkPosted from my iPhone/Mobile device

You need to set up a whole system from running line to leader knot to leader to jig knot. This is what Mike P is saying. In jigging you will be snagging the bottom , etc. You need your systen to break at the jig knot if possible , then if not there , in the leader , then if not there , at the leader knot and hopefully almost never in the expensive braid running line.

Now you get some help there. The jig knot gets bashed to hell , the leader itself gets frayed , for some the leader knot gets wacked by the guide rings although not all do it this way.

Its really inviting to try to get casting distance by new rod , reels , line , etc but the bottom line is you need a complete system at the canal. Emphasize the casting distance too much and suffer else where. Emphasize the line knot strength and you'll get low distance. Anyway , you should pay attention to what Mike said as you eventually will do it that way. A little advice may save you a hundred on lost braid before you learn the hard way.

Sufix PB or 832 50# you will be extremely happy with the results...

The Bimini is on my plugging rod. It's an 11ft ssu mh. It's probably more of a 20ft loop and a Bimini knot. At the end of my loop I do a offshore swivel knot with a breakaway fast link. I do the loop so I can cast off of 40lb test and still keep the line diameter as small as possible.
