Foam blocks for car top
 

My SUV has no roof racks :-( Should I just get those Foaml blocks and the tiedown straps? If yes, do you reccommend a specific brand or style.

W/ no roof racks that is probably your best option.....

I used them with my canoe (17+ ft Old Towne) with 1" ratcheting-type straps and it worked fine. The were light blue and fit right around the gunnels.

JohnnyD suggested using cut sections of pool noodles a while back. I used them last year with heavy duty ratchet straps and had no problems at all. At about $3 for one that can be cut in half, it's a lot cheaper than those foam blocks and works great.
