The canal is loaded with fish!

Not really. I just wanted to be the first to spot burn it this season.
I've never actually fished it. Maybe this year. I did fish in a pond in Vermont yesterday, mid state, and landed at least 25 trout on the flyrod. 11 to 14 inches. So much fun. Mostly stocked but some beautiful natives mixed in.

Nice. I got to do a little stream fishing when I went back to PA a couple weeks ago. There was recent rains that had the streams raging but I managed to find a few fishable streams at higher elevations. I caught a couple browns and a rainbow, and also several natives at a little mountain stream you can jump across in many places. Here's the brown. Oh, and nice job with the fake. I couldn't click fast enough...:wall::soon:

BTW, thats my blood on the creel. My line snapped when he was at my feet and I had to corral him. One of those trebles went in my finger. Glad I had a good hold on em and crushed the barbs... :crying:

When you are lucky enough to find a piece of water that hasn't been raked of the coals by ever line-slinger within a tri-state radius, you may find some exceptional fish in skinny water.
Some years back I was fishing a secluded part of the Shawsheen River (if you know how long thios river is, it's definitely NOT a spot burn) and was trying my luck at some stocked brookies as well as a few holdovers. One of my last catches was in about a foot of water and was a nice 14-16" brown. Compared to the brookies, it was a real horse of a fish.

Nice brown!

I have an uncle (and also my godfather) that lives in Skowheegan, Maine. He used to be an avid fly fisherman. Of course that was before they started logging in the areas he used to go to.
In his words, "Once they put in the logging roads, it ruined it for me, because now people had really easy access to pristine waters that I had to hike thru the woods to fish. Now they can drive right up to them and fish them out!" He hasn't fished in decades, and has turned his attention/hobby towards flying large RC planes.
He kept a journal of EVERY ONE of his trips, including one he made with my father. For me, that is a real piece of history!

I once caught a 15 inch native brookie on a small stream in NH that I fish every summer.... it was written up in a magazine about 3 yrs ago and has never been the same since...

That's a FAT Brown trout. Nice. I fished the Lacakawaxen and small streams around there for about 25 years. Love that water. Great for trout and smallmouth.

The best waters are still the ones you have to work for. I totally get it.I've also been keeping a fishing journal foe about 15 years now and hope my son (18) will appreciate it one day.
