It's egg laying time again!!!
It's funny that they will travel quite a ways to find suitable nesting sites. What's even more impressive is that the young will follow the same reverse route back to the water the parent came from! If you know where it was nesting, check back in a few weeks (not sure how long it takes) to see if you find the hatchlings scurying back across your lawn? |
If you can find the nest you can take the eggs out and bury them in a pot full of sand. Very cool to watch the little ones hatch out.

I hatched 26 a few years back the mothers put her nest 3 inches from the road so when she was done i dug them up all 31 and raised them in recycling bins, when they hatched i put them back in the pond the mother came from. I was pretty cool to see them hatch

If they see you when they are laying they will move to a new spot and try again.
Then the skunks come and sniff them out at night and eat the eggs. Few years ago I had my stool next to a nest and as they dug there way out I put them in a bucket an carried them to the water as gulls watched there meal go missing |
