Brotha,can you spare a dimension?

Well the big bunka are in the area and hope to get some time in friday. Problem is I have been turning some big wood as you have seen in my post but I don't have any measurements for an A40 or even better a Bluestreak. Searched and dug through my buddy's stash of old stuff but nuttin!! I would like to turn at least one to have in the bag. Got a good idea of how to weight (or not) them from some old posts, just need some dimensions. Thanks

AYC material. Body diameters on some vary. I made them 1 9/32 , 5/8 tail. Length 7 1/8". Round nose , mid slot, offfset wire hole to front hook hole then straight thru center from rear to first hook hole . A-40 Salty lip , lip slot cut deep enough to leave 1/8" between lip back and plug face. Hook holes: 1 1/2" back and 4 3/4" back. This hook spacing will work with 3/0 hooks and split rings or cut 4/0 hooks. Weight hole 2 1/2" back 7'16" deep. Pour lead to 1/16" of top. Approx 6 grams of weight. All holes drilled w/ 11/32 drill bit. Approx weight w/o hooks 2.8oz. I'll get you the body length to taper when I get home from work. Just finish a few. Did some with eel skin groove 1" back. All others blind.

Sarge....glad to loan you a Blue Streak to use as a model if you like? I think I can trust you with one? Not a problem?

Thanks Larry, If you could just measure length, dia. and tail dia. and hook holes, that would be good. I have some good pic's of one, and may try one in mahogany like the originals.

Sarge, the straight diameter is approx. 4" then the concave taoer starts. Good luck.

The diameter is not the length...its the girth.:uhuh:

I will measure shortly Sarge!

Let me rephrase that. The diameter of 1 9/32 area is approx 4" in length from the nose to the start of the taper.

First attempt!

AYC, 7.5", 1.30" dia tapered to .650. Rigged with NJT A40 lip and 3/0 hooks, .250 x 1.00 tail weight. somewhere around 3 oz. balance point is dead center. I'll test like this and see how it does, maybe a little belly weight at the balance point. Also turned a Jr. this morning, white cedar 6" x 1.25" dia. tapered to .680 with single hook and .5 x .25 belly weight just aft of center, I'm going to work w/ a NJT Danny 3 lip and 3/0 hook.

Got out and test swam the A-40 and Jr. today. Swims to my liking with just the tailweight, not too wild, but a nice wiggle at all speeds. Swims just below to about a foot. I'll leave it be and finish it up. Didn't like the look of the Jr. so I made another from AYC. 6", 1.20" dia. tapered to .600 at the tail, also tailweighted and 1- 3/0 hook. I used a NJT Danny 3 lip and shaped the front to an Atom style. Really lucked out on this one, it swam perfect and casts great! Going to make 3 or 4 more. So it was a good day, did test a few others that had been laying around..1 turd and a few so so's.
