VHF Radio

My VHF radio finally bought the farm after about 8 years of hard use. I guess I'll have to break down and spend some money on something rather than fishing gear now. That kills me! Which radio do you guys use or recommend? Don't want to spend a mint, just want something that's dependable and will do the job.

The Icom 502 is huge. How about the 402? It's much smaller, but is it as good?

I also have the Icom 502 and it works great! Just ask the four guys from last Oct. that were out for a swim in Buzzards Bay with out thier boat:smash: I also have the remote mic. so the radio is down in the cabin out of the weather. No big wholes to cut in the dash that way .

I run a innexpensive Raymarine 53 DSC, it seems to do everything I need it to do, about $165.00

I have a little icom, don't remember the model number, but I've had it for about 10 years abd its going strong. There's a reason why most of the commercial boats use icom radios.

Thanks guys, I'm going to checkout the Icom's at Boaters World today.:D

Try consumers marine electronics, they have a web site and they're probably a lot cheaper than boater's world. They are in NJ so shipping would only take two days or so.

ICOM 502 is best on market, followed by the 402.

try brokenlegdave.com too.

Thanks guys. I got the 402 due to the size, it's much smaller and seems to do the same thing pretty much. Got it in black...Looks cool!!:D How do they hold up to getting wet?
