Lefty conventional reel info?

OK, time to get serious. Mike, I will be looking to your response here too.

Who has lefty conventional reels and whaddya like. As with other products, it seems lefties are discriminated against as not all manufacturers make their better models in a southpaw version.

I will have the Abu 7001 soon
that is the 7000-C3 in a left hand version.

You know Mike, if I could just hook up as quickly as you responded......
Thanks. PM me when they arrive and cost info. Tricked out like TCST????

Penn used to make a lefty 140 Squidder--dunno if they still do. In big reels, that used to be the only one. Now you have the 7001 too.

Mid size reels, you have the Abu 6501 models and the Calcutta 401 TE (big bucks on the Calcutta tho).

Can Someone Set Me Straight?

Maybe I've just gotten used to adapting to a right-handed world all my life, but I have a 555GS I am more comfortable with in the right-handed model versus a lefty reel like pictured in the thread above. I found it more comfortable casting with my left arm and keeping the control of the rod in my left hand versus passing the rod over to my right hand and reeling with my left. And it just seemed right that the dominant (left) hand/arm would hold the rod in a fight, be more coordinated for working the rod during a retreive, and there's no fumbling changing hands during the cast;after the cast my right hand more instinctively comes down to the handle. Now that being said, I am by no means an expert on conventionals and really starting to doubt my use, though it probably just evolved since I've never had a lefty reel to compare.
Nightfighter, I didn't mean to change the direction of your thread, just wanted to get some clarity on if I'm doing it right or wrong. FYI-I know the Penn has a GS series reel that comes in left-handed.

Hey Mike, are you sure the 7001 is a C3? I got one and its just a C. I got the bearings from Hatteras to upgrade it to a C3.

Scotch, where did you find that custom 6501? I cannot find it on Hatteras' web site?

mikecc 04-18-2003 08:31 PM

the info I got said 3 bearings if not I'll add the bearings myself.:D
