Spool dings
Hi all,
After fishing this week I've noticed some small dings on the edge of the spool. What can you do to smooth out the dings? Can you use a ultra fine file then buff the area? Or do you just buy a spare spool and the next time you fall sacrifice the body..... Cheers, O.D.M. |
try a brillow pad...

aluminum?
dings = dents ? just like body workin a car

I had my line put on my spool at M&D's and they smoothed all the dings out before putting the line on.

On metal spools in the past I have used a product called lab metal by Alvin for real good dings Thanks put the spool on a spinning device drill press etc. And smoothed the filler with 220 400 and steel wool. Bake and repaint.

Fine foam emery board for fingernails.
Then learn how to fall reels up. |
most hardware stores stock wet/dry super fine emory paper in single sheets, perfect for smoothing dings and great to keep in your plug bag to take care of nicks that might occur while fishing and it'll put a sick point on your hook, won't be adversely affected from getting wet so you can just leave it in your bag, I like it better than a rusty file, doesn't take up any space at all

what makai said... foam fingernail pad... it has 4 grades of abrasion, ending in a high shine. my vs spool has been nicked during an outing...
i always have it in my bag, so quick repair, and its done. go to cvs... 2$ |
Thanks everyone!!!
Emblem Pro, aluminum spool. Cheers, Mike |
I have used the lab metal on old 704 spools that had heavier damage to them. For minor stuff I would think the Emery option would work great

How bad are these dings? I mean, you can sand or try to smooth but your efforts will be fruitless it they are very bad dings. I would sand only if there were scratches or if the were burrs that could snag the line on the beveled edge. :)
