Tuna $$$$
I was looking at market price for tuna the other day and was wondering if the daily market price changes alot? Does anyone know what the price per pound last week tuna was, if you sold a fish at the dock?
|
It is based on the quality of each individual fish for Bluefin. It has a lot to due with color, fat content, shape, condition of fish (was it scorched) etc. Yellowfin on the other hand ...
|
A lot also has to do with supply & demand also
|
Ya I new that it was based on the quality of fish. Supply and demand? Does it really change that much ?

Also depends on Yen/Dollar exchange rate. You sell the fish in Yen and then it converts back to Dollars - this is the one instance where a weak Dollar vs the Yen is a good thing.
And maybe if my father wasn't booked up with Bass charters every freaking day I could go find this out for myself... I'm going to have to turn into a freaking boat ho' this summer too. |
Last year the bigger money was in Mahi, not tuna. (well, the price for Bigeye was also good last year) When selling YFtuna the dealers saw a few mahi on board and he wanted them a lot more than the tuna. One guy said...go back out and catch a boatload of mahi, I will take every one and pay top dollar. (It was ridiculous) I may try that this year.
|
We always stop and hit the Mahi's to help the fuel fund for the trip. Every little bit helps and there fun on light tackle.

Damn, Thats a great idea!!!! We usually back up to a high flyer and toss out a few butterfish chunks.... |
That is very popular in other parts of the world. You can also use newspaper and lay the sheets together. If you go the tarp route stick a reflector in it so you can find it using radar if you are going to be away from it for a few hours.

can't wait to hear about the trip! |
We got $6 and $7 for our last 2 fish. These were boated quick, properly cared for and iced.
Very few fish around these parts have the proper fat and oil to go overseas right now. We won't see good fish for another 6 weeks or more. However there are a few, as Mark's fish took a plane ride. |
A few more fish went for a plane ride earlier in the week. The best prices are fall herring fattened fish. October/November fish have high fat and oil content due to the forage of the summer. They also have the aestectic shape they look for as well as the coloring. Best thing to do if you fight a fish for a while is swim back to color. A hot discolored fish = cat food.
