mosquito control
kind of tired listening to the wife complain about how my 2 years old are constantly getting bit in the back yard, and how we can't even enjoy ourselves in the yard because of moquitos.
how do i get rid of these things. mosquito magnet? fogger? lawn sprays? garlic? lots of crazy stuff out there on the internet. |
deet
|
honestly I still get attacked with the deet.
If money is not a problem get the mosquito magnet ...if you need the much cheaper route get the Thermacell. It works in the immediate area you are in (such as a patio) This thing has been amazing and for short money. In fact we just bought another one |
i use one of those clip on battery operatred ones, think its the same thing jenn mentioned, we use the larger one for the back yard, works really good.
also get rid of any standing water you may have around the house they will lay eggs in a puddle, a bucket with rain water, really anything that will hold water. |
Get rid of all free standing water , F the M magnet , and toss BT blocks in drainage ditches etc around the house where they breed . Attract bats and swallows and other birds to your yard .

I live in an area that's loaded with mosquitos, some the size of small birds. We have lot's of wetlands around where they breed and are surrounded by woods. I have the big cordless mosquito magnet and it works on our yard which is an acre, but doesn't get them all. I also have to fill the propane tank every 3 weeks. We call the Bristol County Mosquito Control and they spray our street every couple of weeks, too. It seems to help a bit.
I've tried everything and the thing that works best (that can be bought at a store) is the Cutter Backyard Bug Spray. You hook it up to your hose and spray the grass, bushes, trees, etc... I do it in the morning and it dries in no time and we get no mosquitos for about 2 weeks. It's cheap, too. Backyard? Bug Control Concentrate And definitely put up some bat houses if you can. The bats eat a ton of mosquitos and are pretty cool to watch at night. |
OTHER REC'S
your skin
is the largest organ of your body having the most square feet of surface area it's the first line of ATTACK having brewers yeast regularly (ICE CREAM SHAKES) makes you excrete vitamin B1 ON YOUR SKIN and mosquitos hate it... the TASTE OF IT TO THEM IS TABOO you also need to not be wearing denim blue colors as that attracts mosquitos. i like the cutters skinSensations [correction] for when they are thick THEN there's also a bit of wisdom knowing when to retreat :uhuh: citronella candles work VERY well for us.... or you can also set up a square window fan mosquitos can't fly in that breeze very well |
has anyone tried a service like orkin? i'm infested

Inexpensive and effective
Another vote for Themacell device. Bought two and a backup last year and patio was kept relatively skeeter-free. Size of a 1985 cell phone, battery run. Good bang for the buck.

Also be aware that a lot of mosquito repellents used in the OFF and other candle warmed lamps etc . Some are very harmful to aquatic life. Also , many of the chems used in these and similar devices are also toxic to people and domestic animals . You need to stay in the zone where the chem is released for mosquito relief. Yet doing so also makes you inhale the toxic chems , mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I'd just scratch myself and deal with it ..... |

that same philosophy applies to dog and cat collars making the poor animal breath those fumes constantly. :hs: i just put a little skin sensations spray on my hand and then pet the dog and cat a little to scent them they don't like it sure, but it dries quick |
I have a buddy ofmine that lives with a pond in his backyard and woods nearby. He loves the mosquito magnet. Swears by it. Lives in the yard during summer, eating on the deck.
