Best way right there....everything else is Voodoo medicine. it will start to clear up in a couple of days on it.

I've had it a couple of times...thing that sucks the most is that instead of building up an immunity to it the more you are exposed, your body becomes more allergic to it the more you are exposed.

blondterror 07-01-2011 07:23 AM

I agree with the steroid pack treatment... salt water helps it dry up faster...

BigFish 07-01-2011 07:40 AM

Saltwater Josh! Go stand in the surf for a bit a couple times thios weekend and it will help dry it out....no lie!

Saltwater/sunburn will clear it up in a day.

Lay out in the sun for a few hours and wade into the water every so often - no sunblock. It will be dried out by the next day.

Chubby-Chaser 07-01-2011 08:29 AM

Glog,

Did you run the warrior dash? I ran it Saturday and have poison ivy on my legs.

Technu is the best over the counter for it, if its real bad head to the Dr for the good stuff.

I'm highly allergic and Technu is excellent. I use the soap and shower with it if I think I've been exposed or after I get a rash and it works great. If you already have the rash, you will notice it gets a bit better every day after you use it.

And, if you are immune, your immunity is reduced by every exposure.

HESH2 07-01-2011 09:53 AM

tecknu is like everyone said aside from the dr. the best.remember to wash your stuff your were wearing to get rid of posin ivy oils.good luck .

timmah 07-01-2011 10:02 AM

Swimming in a highly chlorinated pool alway helped clear it up for me pretty quickly. I used to get it so bad as a kid just from looking at it. A couple times I had it in my throat and eyes from brush fires. Eyes completely swollen shut and oozing. When i turned 21 I got hay fever allergies and never got poison ivy again.

yes. i ran sunday.

going to be tough to get to the doctor's over the holiday weekend. will get the technu and throw some extra shock in the pool and spend some time in there. i put bleach on it once when i was younger and it worked, but hurt and probably isn't all that healthy.

maybe i'll take some of my dog's prednizone, the wife would (a nurse) would love that.

OLD GOAT 07-01-2011 10:22 AM

Spend a sunny day walking along a saltwater beach getting your legs wet and the best part is you can beach fish at the same time.
The fishing will help take some of the pain away

paradoxjim 07-01-2011 10:28 AM

I've always washed it with a lye soap such as Fels Naptha or Octogon - old, brown bar soaps. It really helps dry it out and diminishes the itchiness. I also use the spray version of Benadryl on it. If you can tolerate the stickiness, it does cut out the itchies. Good luck.

Poncho 07-01-2011 10:43 AM

go to dr and get the ROIDS

I agree with the DR, Technu and the Fels Naptha. its in teh laundry isle at stop and shop. In fact you can make a pste and leave it on there.

MAKAI 07-01-2011 11:53 AM

Roids asap really.

sure

think of it ....like..... it was a burn

now decide what degree burn you have.

i agree on the technu 100%
but you also need the prednizone (schedule now)

i know it's steroids but in the worse case scenario's
it's the only way to go dude.... because it kicks BUTT

i would still do the chlorine and the technu and the saltwater
because the salt in saltwater really helps heal and dry up
the liquids that get excreted from the P.I. blisters...

at the ocean:
the trick is to get wet ...lay out...>>>dry<<< and repeat
over and over.

the phels napa and brown laundry soaps
work wonders too.

throw away those shoes

What did you think of the course, aside from the mud

technu is good if you know you were exposed and then shower the same day with it.

otherwise, i've done the ammonia or bleach thing. burns pretty bad, but effective. get tough scrub the chit out of your legs. good luck, make sure the baby doesn't get it.

Mr. Sandman 07-01-2011 03:30 PM

I hate PI. Like many others I get it bad. Had the eyes swollen shut and looked like a leper one time, never thought it would heal. My groin area was also infected, there are no words to describe what that looked looked liked. Got the steroids but it irritated the skin so much it was a long process. I took oatmeal baths and that felt better but didn't make it go away.I was leaking sap like a Maple tree.

I avoid it now and is one reason I like boating over camping.

Best of luck with it and hope you feel better.

Don't scratch......

(PS don't burn it! I know a guy who got it IN his lungs from burning it, a nasty plant!)

It was fun. I expected harder obstacles. Mud was a bit over the top.

Another vote for steroids and anitbiotics. Last summer I tried to "wait it out". Bad choice, by the time I finally caved in and went to the doc I was covered from head to toe (including the one area where you DO NOT want it). Had scars all winter that just went away.

The meds clears it up really quick.

Raven 07-02-2011 08:00 AM

oh um....during the 4th of july

remember:
one last thing about healing your skin....

your body definitly requires vitamin B to do the job

unfortunately
alcohol leaches vitamin B right out of your system
and is one of the big causes of a hangover
(the rest is due to "beverage of choice" impurities)

Brewers yeast (the nutritional yeast)
is very helpful in this regard and that is how
i discovered it.... actually, as it turned the tide of the
poison ivy infection around in two days so that it was
rapidly retreating :point: as good as the steroids work.

or eat some banana's as Karl likes to say :)

Jenn 07-02-2011 08:17 AM

Never had it myself...thank god
Jewel weed is supposed to neutralize the PI oils when exposed. My backyard is full of the stuff....grows in areas often not far from the ivy itself.

nightfighter 07-08-2011 05:30 PM

Channel 4 just did a piece on that Warrior Course and that MANY participants are still suffering the resulting rashes.... How's yours, Josh? I'd be pissed......

Raven 07-08-2011 05:44 PM

whom ever approved that course that was obviously loaded with POISON IVY is a complete Moron
