Eel Bob Take 1
 

Picked up some pj eel bobs over the weekend and thought I'd give em a try this week on the rocks. There was some information out there on them in a few threads and DZ's article on tattoo's site, but no real good explanations on rigging them.

From what I found, (rigging them Newport style), you skin about 2.5" starting right behind the pectoral fins, give the eel the chop right where you started to skin it, hook it, then tie the loose skin back over the tail wrap on the bob. I threw some dacron with a lock knot along the hook shank to add a tad more bite. Looks like these puppies will have sick action with the swing hook.

Thoughts, comments, tips and criticism please, these don't look anywhere near as clean as the pictures of the rigged eel bobs on tattoo's site..

Now with your fingers go down the entire length and pop each vertibrae (like cracking your knuckles. This will get out any rigor and they will be limp and wiggle nice as you retrieve them or play into current etc.

I fold them (sideways) and move the fold down to the tail, it really frees up the action.

Looks good. Do you have any pictures of the bob w/o the eel on it?

They look very good. Definitly will catch bass if you can keep teeth away from them . Couple of hints: Secret to the eel bob is to remove most of the eels backbone. Figure it out.

I find setting the big point of the siwash more difficult so my preference is to change out the siwash hook to a strong stainless beak or O'shaugnessy. Kudos for Pt Jude in producing this old time lure.

Thanks DZ, I went ahead and broke the back bone all way down to the tail as another member suggested, definitely freed up the action on it. Not sure what hook comes stock on them from PJ, looks like the same mustad that they put on the swim plate, next time I rig em Ill swap it with my riggie hooks.
