2 stroke oil question....
 

I have a 2-stroke mercury optimax 115, 2006.
One guy told me only to put Mercury optimax 2 stroke oil in it or I would have problems. Several other have told me any good quality 2-stroke oil will be fine. What do you guys think?

I think as long as it is TCW-3 you are all set. I use Pennzoil Premium Plus in my Yamaha. Buy it at Walmart, so much cheaper..........

Use what is suggested by the manufacturer. Too much can go wrong if you cut corners to save $. Costs you in the long run.I buy my oil online at domo online.Waay cheaper than retail...

All My 1995 merc 115 has ever had is Penzoil premium plus synthetic... and it runs as good today as it did when I bought it... as far as hours.. it sees more in one season than the average inshore boater would see in a life time..

Thank you for the input. It's been running well and I don't want to mess it up.

I am not an engine guy at all.... That said, the mechanic I put my trust in says he can tell what quality oil has been run through an engine when he opens them up. I use the manufacturers recommended oil as it has all the additives. Yamalube and Ringfree religiously and my 1993 200hp is running strong. And I have been putting more than 400 hours a season on it for the four years I've owned it.

Agree, I forgot to add that I use ringfree as well...............

The only thing with ring free is, if you are going to use it, it needs to be used from day 1... if you use it on an older motor, it tends to swell any carbon behind the rings and thus causes them to bind, over heat the engine and lead to failure...if you use if from day one, this never gets a chance to happen...as carbon does not accumulate..
