Striper Lottery
With so many recreational anglers fishing for striped bass and government and fishermen say there are not as many fish maybe it is time for a lottery to go striper fishing. The state has no knowledge of how many people are recreationally fishing for stripers. They do not know if a thousand are targeting stripers or ten thousand.
Maybe it should be controlled like they do deer permits. Have a free recreational striper permit, you apply the first of the year and you are entered into a lottery and only so many permits will be issued for that summer, if you do not draw a permit you can not target stripers or keep a striper, you would have to go dog fishing or what ever else. |
or we could make it a gamefish and go back to 1 @ 36" and everyone could fish :).

Eff That.....

No offense man but that is the stupidest s*** I have ever herd. No one is going to tell me when I can and can't go fishing, basically what your suggesting is we all just grab our ankles, no thanks.

Yea have to agree with Josh, though I am on board with the intention to save the stocks, that is just a silly idea.
Gamefish status is a lot more feasible. And who really needs to keep a striper anyway? If you want to brag about your catch take a picture, and if you want to eat fish go after something more tasty like fluke or sea bass. But on the other hand, it would be taking money of out peoples pockets not being able to harvest them. As usual, a tough call on an endless debate brought on by poor regulation and management. |
Why would you want to troll with a fly rod?
|
I like the idea that the government pay me $50,000 dollars a year not to fish for them kinda like they pay the farmer not to grow crops
|
switching to Bobs Idea is a good idea

Spent saturday afternoon at handkerchief shoals in Chatham looking at thousands of large keeper fish while we waiting for the tide to come up at the marina. Not a boat around.
The fish are there, the forage is not. |
Maybe have a lottery for a permit for the herring and menhaden draggers?

SO....you are suggesting that the state or national authorities have a lottery for us to be allowed to fish? You can't be serious? If that were ever the case, you KNOW that there would be people getting permits (under the table) that are "friends" of some official! Then they will make us PAY to enter the lottery, as well as pay for the saltwater license. NO WAY, NO HOW will this ever be a logical solution! (but then again, look at the people in charge and ask "They can't all be stupid and crooked?" and realize they ARE!!!!) |
I just threw this blog out there to see how many real true Striper For Ever people are out there.
Apparently seems that most believe in Tobey Keith's song, "It's All about Me." Most seem not to want to sacrifice for the striper. Numbskull: Never know what you can catch trolling and you need not have a fly rod. :) |

Maybe have a lottery to win a permit to join the lottery for a permit???:smash:

No screw that instead target the Carolina fisherman who catch thousands of pounds of striper in their nets only to keep a few large ones per government regulations and just dump the rest back into the ocean....Check out the story in Saltwater magazine...I think it was April or May issue..........

What he said~ Are you nuts? First I have to pay to fish waters nobody owns now you want to take it away? That's what this saltwater lisence was all about now THEY need to do their job! They know how many licenses they sold. I think you may be talking to the wrong people here at STRIPED BASS.COM. Most of these people do the right thing and do their part for the fisheries in one way or another. Many catch and release, keeping only what they need. |

So who the hell is going to police this idea? You think they're going to put 50000 DEM officers on the water to catch the guy who's on Brenton Reef at 2 in the morning?
Whenever there is a lottery involved there will be rampart abuse. A lottery isn't the answer. Stopping the BS in the Carolines, VA and MD with the netters would help. Game fish status would help even more and 1 fish, 36" per day would also. Put em all together and you would solve the Striper decline. Look what happened with the pogies in Narr Bay. They stopped the Pogy boats from going north of Conimicut Light and we still have pods of pogies around. Last year you couldn't buy a pogy after June 15th. It is all about what make sense. |

OK, let's say you have to win a lottery for a permit to fish for striped bass.
I'll just fish for bluefish. If I happen to catch a bass--or 20--hey, I can't help that. I'm fishing for bluefish. As long as I don't keep one, what's to keep me from fishing? :rollem: |
I don't think this dude was serious when he posted it, I think numbskull hit the nail on the head. He is just trolling for a reaction, only reason I can think someone would come up with such a terrible idea.

How about everybody take less from the sea without the government telling us what to do?
