I know the phrase, "there're everywhere and there're nowhere" but man, this is crazy!

I boat out of Stamford, CT.
I guess my big question is.. should I chunk out in the middle of the sound, sound reef, triangle, etc.. or hug the shore in 10ft of water?

This would be late at night or very early (before daybreak) I would be out.

I know tide is important. Talkin august now.

They are there, mostly. I KNOW there are bass in the sound. Go deep, go bunker, go eel and go dark.

Are water temps too high for shallow?

I surfcast in the fairfield area. Been getting at least 1 keeper sized fish a week in less than 10 feet of water after dark.a couple weeks ago i got 5 keepers and the biggest was 20lbs. This weekend should be great for fishing low incoming tides at night. I mostly use plugs but sometimes fresh bunker chunks...The areas i've been hitting are sand flats near dropoffs and or creek beds & substrate changes like rubble areas to sand. Stripers hit the shallows at night to feed.

Thanks for the info. I go out maybe once a week with my boat. Last mon went out @ 4am but was in Stamford Harbor too late (got there dead low).

I know late night /early am is the best. It's just hard either staying up late or getting up early. I work 4am-12noon. Tired after work and go to bed at 830pm. On my days off I need the am to catch up on what hrs I lose during work days.

Still like the motto goes," gotta be in it to win it" applies here too.

If I go out this monday am want to make sure the tide is almost high

Talk to the local tackle shops and they will share what they are hearing.

One shop says go deep another says 10ft or less. Go figure.

Either learn how to yo-yo fish or follow Redlite around.

Find a nice rip and 3-way eels over it between 11:00PM and 4:00AM.

Keep moving around until you find them.

Or toss eels into the rock piles during the same hours.

The best way to figure it out is to stick with it until you figure it out.

Im a fan of 3-waying scup, it worked a few weeks ago in mid afternoon. Water from 25-100' didnt seem to matter.
