What I saw on my summer vacation

I was on BI last week and had two interesting sightings. I spent my days on Crescent Beach where I witnessed a man with an ugly stick and a penn 704z fishing bait on a crowded beach with kids swimming as close to five feet of his rod. When after two hours he finally reeled in the 50 yds of line he had on the reel, there was a gulp crawfish on his hook.

The other thing I saw was SBFT within casting distance of the beach chasing halfbeaks. I did bring my rod everyday in case bonito showed up. I took a cast but they were still too far off the beach. Next thing I knew they were in close enough to reach but I could not reel in fast enough. By the time I got my tin in, they were gone. It didn't matter anyway because if I hooked up, I was undergunned but it would have been fun.

I love the summer.

Who knows - those baby gulp lobsters on a jig head could be doing a number in the boulders.... you may have just learned something ;)

Most visitors out there are not rigged for salt water and many use sweetwater tackle on the beach. It's amazing how many freshwater crank baits I find washed up on the island in November.

Hope you had a good time.
