Canal Tides
I don't spend a lot of time at the Canal, but was wondering if it makes a difference fishing the evening turn instead of the morning. I fished this morning but the boy want to go back tonight. Thanks.

Take the boy fishing! Always worth a shot there. Anything can happen at any time. I was thinking about going myself for the last few hours of the tide. Thats if I can wiggle out. Good luck

We'll be on the Cape side, starting around 6 or so.
|
It's a lot less common to see breaking fish on the evening turns.
|
Better on late night tides for me....but you never know.
|
MORE PEOPLE (lurkers) in the evening because ONLY the die-hard canal anglers will get up before sunrise to fish!

The tides mean water height level changes. Fishing in the dark and early AM does better. It depends on where you are standing on. Just read the water. You and your son are going to do well. I fished yesterday AM. It was a successful and fun outing.

Well we had a nice night out, although there were no fish to be found. Spent some time getting the boy used to the whole casting from the water wearing hip boots thing. He's doing well and casting much further than I thought he would. So after about 30 min he's feeling good and asked me to move down a bit and fish and let him do it him self. A few casts later he lost his footing and fell in the drink. Yup, his hip boots were full to the knees. He didn't want to leave, he felt bad and he wanted to sit on the rocks so he would'nt ruin my night. We packed up and left. After I assured him the my night was not ruined and it was very enjoyable teaching him he felt better.
This is the beginning of some awesome memories fishing with him. |
That's the most important thing, man. =)

Unfortunately that has to happen for them to listen. They get bored of the safety speeches until something happens. Fortunately the incident was minor. I bet now he'll pay a bit of extra attention when you advise him....let me know when your heading down again. Ty is experienced down there and always ready to go.

I try explaining to my son to pay attention and I know he does, but not enough. |
Ive had some really fun afternoons into evenings down there, it can go off anytime, anywhere if the conditions are right. BTW i need another safety speech, I busted my azz so hard yesterday on a perfectly flat rock. felt like i broke my hip, ouch. the studs on my shoes r falling out :smash:

C'mon now. How many of you "grown ups" have worn hippers and not gotten wet at least half the time?:rotf2:
I may have, once or twice, but I usually end up wishing I had my chest waders. |
Next weekend morns+=fish!
