Tremor

Good sized double wiggles just happened in Agawam, Ma.
Window shades swayed and all.

tysdad115 08-23-2011 12:58 PM

My desk just started moving slightly....didnt know what it was

Bill L 08-23-2011 01:01 PM

Our office in Providence just shook, reportedly from an earthquake in Virginia

JFigliuolo 08-23-2011 01:08 PM

i thought it was just gas...

JLH 08-23-2011 01:14 PM

Same here. I had some pretty good ripples in my coffee cup on my desk.

JackK 08-23-2011 01:17 PM

Hit my parents pretty good in PA, everyone's OK... Felt nothing here in GL

luds 08-23-2011 01:18 PM

Felt like I was having motion sickness.

FoliFish 08-23-2011 01:19 PM

I thought I was losing my mind, or having a seizure or something. Then everyone in the office confirmed they felt it too.

Exactly what I said ...chair was leaning against desk, felt like I was on a boat.

Jimbo 08-23-2011 01:25 PM

Felt it pretty good in Princeton, NJ. The walls of my office are glass panels and it was like the walls were jello and I was dizzy at the same time. A feeling I have never felt before.
So do we now expect Irene and a tsunami? My kids are at the shore right now.

Completely different geologic setting. Intraplate earthquake (VA) vs. convergant plate boundary (Chile).

FishermanTim 08-23-2011 01:47 PM

There was also one in Colorado as well, around the same magnitude.

Should we all start hoarding water, hot pockets, batteries and ductape?

FishnGrega 08-23-2011 01:54 PM

I didn't feel dingle here in Newport...

In your case it probably was.

My wife is in Charlottesville Va on a business trip, she called just after 2 and said it was the scariest thing she's been through. People in the office were freeking out and everone was under tables and desks. She said it was pretty violent.

Nebe 08-23-2011 02:15 PM

I was actually quite scared at my glass studio. I went and leaned on a wall because i thought i was loosing my mind or having a mild heart attack/vertigo and felt the wall shaking.. it was pretty cool once i understood what was going on.

while living in San Francisco, along with fellow east coasters, we laughed at how the Californians dealt with rain and snow.
I bet some native Califorinians would have a laugh at the posts on this thread. My wife went through a few 7+ on the 34th floor. 5.9 was a minor occurence that no one barely noticed.

Bronko 08-23-2011 02:21 PM

Thanks to the earthquake, I've now had a female tell me twice this week that she felt nothing.

My wife is also afraid of her shadow.

"Did the earth move for you?"
"No?"
"Well, me neither!"

Interesting. I was sitting quietly in my office at work, fresh glass of water in front me, didn't notice or feel anything.

yeah, but only one you can can take personally...

there is a joke in there about 5.8 instead of larger magnitude, but it is beneath me :rotf2::rotf2::jump1:

Will you post a pic where there is actual damage :rotf2:

I realize there is likely some real damage. I also like our resident Rocktologist 'splaining things :btu:
