Question for You Gardeners

Tried my hand this year at a vegetable garden. Had some wins and some losses.....one thing I was hoping to get some answers on is on Corn.

Do you guys have any tricks to keep the Worms outta your corn? I got a bunch coming in but I noticed that almost all the ears had worms in them.

I just cut off the tip and eat it anyways but was wondering if there was somethig I could do to keep them out.

Any Suggestions.

Thanx in Advance.

yep

it is recommended you place some mineral oil
on the corn silk to prevent the worms from crawling up in there

you could substitute olive oil if you want

paint it on ,,,, just bought sweet corn @ 33 cents an ear

Do you do that after the corn is pollinated or as soon as it makes an appearance?

and I had faith in knowing I'd hear from you :kewl:

I haven't grown corn before , but maybe BT ?

Raven 08-31-2011 01:33 AM

i've used BT before on broccolli to deter the cabbage butterfly worm
and this will sound weird but it changed the coloration of the whole plant to the point that spraying it with a pump up sprayer became NOT an option.

i think when the tassels start to turn from white to brown meaning the corn is maturing changing from starchy to sweet is the correct time.:uhuh:
