Bass Rod & Reel Setup
Post your setup!
Wanna see what everyone is using.. |
Bass, as in striped bass, or bass, as in LMB/SMB?
Assuming the former, my go-to set up right now is a Century Sling Shot 1327, a Shimano Stella SW 10000, and 40# FINS Windtamer braid. |
'tamer good ??

it must be decent if you can go down to 40 w/o many wind-nawts. |
Interesting.
|
2-6 MoJo with an EmPro 5500 and 65 Stealth. Love it.
|
If you are looking for a boat outfit for bass, tautog, fluke, and seabass, get a 7-8foot musky rod, a calcutta 400b and load it with 20 lb fireline. If bluefish are a priority go with spinning instead.
|
1-4 Legend/VS200 with 55# samurai, weighs nothing and has been through absolute hell. The rod just bullies fish.
Just picked up the 2-6 Mojo for the heavier stuff, haven't thrown it yet. When I have the cash I will be trading up for the legend equivalent. |
Surf - CSB1202 & GSB1201 w/ VS200 50# suffix
Boat- 7' custom w/ calcutta 700B & 7' Star Rod w/ VS200 |
Zziplex bass blank with a Penn 706 and 20lb mono.
Not a canal rod, plastic and eels . Best little ol rod for playing in the surf. |

The rod I use for eel casting is a 6'6" honey Lami. blank I wrapped in the mid 80's.. damned if I know the number... the tip is fairly soft, but beefy in size, a requirement unless you want to launch plenty of hookless eels into the brine( as I recall, this blank was 7' when I bought it and I cut some off the tip and butt to accomodate my size and fishing habits).... the whole rod is fairly soft, but packs plenty of muscle, a requirement for the light line ( 16lb Ande tournoment) that I prefer.. I've worn out plenty of reels through the years ( rebuilt the rod a few times as well) it is now paired with a Penn conquer 5000.. this is the smoothest reel I have ever owned ( way smother than my Z bass).. the drag is second to none... one of the finer reels penn has made in a long, long time...

Thinking of the shimano cI4 with. 6'6 rod with 30 lb test any objections

beach rod XSRA1084 paired with a ZX22 20lbfire line I also fish a 1322 with an empro 6500. 40 lb samurai Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
For canal jigging/heavy plugging - Purglas 350-2, Stella 10000SW, 40# Fireline Braid.
For lighter plugging - GSB 1321L, EPro 5500, 30# PP |
Yeah I been looking at the vs 150 for 400 bucks a bit much for me but gotta love them vs.

All legends..7 footer with a vs 150 (overkill in my opinion, besides there are much better reels for a 7 foot rod then vs) ten foot 1/4 and 2/6 Legends with a beat to crap vs 250

VS 150 may be the ultimate Surf Scup reel. OK, it really is a great reel but too small for most big bass applications. Would suggest the VS200 at minimum. There are other decent rigs out there for less coin. It really depends on how and where you will use it. |
I think one of the best bangs for the buck is the Shimano Saragosa. Nice gear set, strong reliable drag and super easy to self service.

What's the braid capacity of the VS150? The VS website says 440 yards of 30 lb, which seems more than plenty. However, SWE/tackledirect list the VS150 capacity at 330/30, and the VM150 is listed as 350/30. PS: If you save up and get a VS250, you have a rock solid reel that you can use for bass AND tuna... |
Rocks: 10ft Lami SS (factory) 2-6 paired with 706 and 50# PP
Beach: 9ft GLoomis 1084 paired with 704 and 30#PP |
