Losing money because of smoking
 

Just went to Bernardi to look at some cars. Drove around the lot so I could look and finish my smoke enough that I could put it out before a salesperson approached us. I parked the car and headed for the showroom and didn't see a bucket or any other type of container to dispose properly of my cigarette. Then I notice a sign on the door that informed me that they are a "smoke free campus for the comfort and heath of their employees". This sent me into orbit and I just turned and walked back to the car and left.
It is one thing to not allow smoking indoors but outdoors in a parking lot, please. Then too top it off and not even have a receptacle for a smoker to properly dispose of their cigarette or cigar, thats just plain rude. They will never see a dime from me even when I do over come my crappy addiction. They lost a potential sale, we need to buy a vehicle, it's not an option, and has to occur soon. Not from any of their dealerships; all because of lack of tolerance/compassion. They can go F_ themselves.
What is it with people. I am not saying smoking is a positive thing but please, it's not as bad as many people think or have been propagandized into believing.
How can you explain people who smoked their whole lives never having an issue directly associated to smoking? There are people who live to be 100 or more that smoked for 30-50-70 years and they die of some other cause, how can you explain that? How old was George Burns when he died? It's hard to find a picture of him without a cigar.
People have got to either make it illegal or ease up on their lack of compassion or tolerance of others.
I have allergies and many fragrances physically effect me. But I take a pill and go on with my life. I don't insist they remove fragrances from being used in order for me to be more comfortable.

Yup, I am a very polite smoker that will gladly not smoke where you don't want me to. But to be so inconsiderate that you won't even place a receptacle for disposing of a cigarette when a smoker walks on your lot in my eyes is just a slap in the face. I didn't know I could not smoke there until I got to the door and read the sign. I would have put the cigarette out if I had a bucket to do so and stayed there without lighting another, but NO.
PUT A BUCKET THERE SO WE FEEL SOMEWHAT WELCOME, we will do as you wish, if given the chance.

If they put a bucket out people will think it's an invite to stand outside and smoke :)

Just snuff it out and throw the butt in the trash, or if your an old service guy put it in your pocket.

I think it is funny to see all the people (employees) standing along the roads at the 2 new Berbardi dealerships in Brockton having a smoke. Never seen a butt can so they must be littering the area?


When I use to work for a healthcare company (this was back in the early 1990's), they instituted a policy of no smoking on the 200 acre campus.

All it would take is a sign with a bucket under it, is that too much to ask for?

Other than health, dignity is one of the reasons that I quit. That and having to make sure that I had ample smokes on hand at all times. Eff cigarettes.

I took no offense and recognize how easy it is to be taken wrong.

I guess being a smoker and getting treated poorly so often because of my crappy habit has finally made me bare my teeth; like a dog that is repeatedly kicked which eventually bites. I've had enough mistreatment and will show my disapproval however I can. In this case they lost a potential sale/customer of not only a vehicle but the service also(they are closest to my home). All because they chose to take a stand against me and my choice to smoke legally. If they smarten up and provide a bucket they could redeem themselves; but I won't be holding my breath waiting...unless it's the kind of cigarette I hold my breath while smoking;) (that might help many of you to disregard what I have to say, I choose natural over pharmaceutical:err::smokin::laugha:).

Somebody please explain how there are people who smoke for decades and never suffer any ill effects?
Has anyone ever considered there might be some sort of cross link that causes the adverse effects? Maybe if you eat onions and smoke thats bad for example. Maybe I won't have a problem because I don't like the taste of sweaty arm pits or the taste of onions.

Dude go back there and ask if the took out all of the ASH TRAY's and CIGARETTE LIGHTERS out of all of the cars!!!!:wall:

Where was all the compassion when, as a Non-smoker, I had to smell all that crap when I was trying to enjoy a meal out at a restaurant...or when I wanted to go out and have a couple of pops and came back wreaking of somebody elses nasty habit....now all of a sudden you have to be inconvenienced because of YOUR nasty habit and WE are supposed to feel compassion.....not this guy.

I love the fact that Smokers are the Lepers of the 21st century....

I have Zero Compassion for Smokers.....they can KMA :bshake: for all I care.

My father was a smoker (Had to quit after being diagnosed w/ Emphesema) and I made him go outside and smoke...so I'm not just picking on you....

Our company has a very strict smoking policy... smoking is only allowed in the provided tent ( at the back of the parking lot)..... or the smokers own vehicle.. those caught smoking outside the "zone" are given 1 written warning then a 2 day suspension... there are disposal containers at each entrance for the unimformed and a 5 gallon bucket full of sand in the tent....smoking killed both my parents, I detest it, but after seeing how their addiction effected them,as neither could quit even when given the alternative, I am a little bit sympathetic....

I had no problem with their policy and follow the rules where ever I go. It was the fact that until I got to the door I did not know this policy. It wasn't till I looked for a proper place to dispose of my cigarette that I saw the small sign on the door. Any decent person who sees a sign for no smoking will immediately extinguish the cigarette and look to get rid of it. They had a nice potted plant there but I am not the kind of guy to dispose of my spent cigarette improperly. Just have a bucket so people who want to adhere to your policy can, is that really too much to ask for.

Everyone else addressed the "it's a private business so they get to do what they want." Just like anything else, if you don't like a company's policies then I'm sure they'd be the first to tell you to take your business elsewhere...

However, I have to point out issue with the above statement. People like to support their arguments by pointing to isolated cases that support their position. Let's remember that exceptions don't make the rule.

Hell, I remember reading about a recent study that said smokers and overweight people actually have the potential to save insurance companies money because they die so much earlier than non-smokers.

I'm not saying don't smoke, being that I enjoy a cigar here and there. But I also know I'm not doing my health any favors.

How do you explain people who never smoked dying of lung cancer?

Once again I'm am not saying smoking is a good thing for a person to do, but the amount of hatred that has been perpetuated by what I consider to be flawed science is where I jump the tracks. I'll do my damnedest to keep smoke away from others which in my eyes makes me a tolerant compassionate person. I'll bet you don't see me that way though do you?

What do you have with an ashtray as standard equipment ;). Actually that is part of the problem she doesn't know what she wants, and where I spent time selling cars I am trying to help her get what she will really enjoy and not what she is swayed towards by a trained salesperson. What do you sell?
Keep in mind
I am there to protect her, my father on the other hand can't seem to understand that a full time seller can easily beat a part time buyer when it comes to vehicles. For him it's the deal he thinks he gets rather than the deal he could of got.
It's funny how often people will ask me after they bought the car if I thought they got a good deal. My answer to them is "can you afford the payments and do you like driving the car...then you got a good deal". I finish by asking them how they would feel about the car if I tell them they got screwed? The enjoyment of owning a new car can easily turn sour with questions like that.

GMC , do some research on the Terrain. Available in front wheel or all wheel drive, 4 cyl (30 mpg) or 6 cyl 25 (mpg) available in alot of trim/color options. The Acadia is the next bigger size vehicle in the "crossover " line..the 2010 and 2011 models are good. Do not buy a used 2007 - 2009 model...they are no good.

The Terrain is on her list, I'll be in touch, although like I said I am here to protect her and I know about the back door dealer incentive invoice games, so it might not be a good time for the salesperson, they don't like minimum $50 commission type deals. With me and her money it's more of a move another unit and make up for it on the next whale.

She just asked if we could take a look at Lance LOL...ok, but they won't be spotting* us today I have yet to do my homework ;)

Ya know it never hit me until I had quit my four pack a day habit, but when it did hit me, the guilt that is, about how I made everyone around me smell like an ashtray around me, I realized how selfish I was in regard to smoking. The hous emust have stunk to high heaven, I know my clothes did. My truck must have stunk to high heaven and not well maybe the old squid made it stink a little too, but that was only during fishing season. Five years after I quit my wife got breast cancer, and I always wondered, even though she and her doctor both said no, whether or not I caused it. I always enjoy your posts but this one I have to disagree with your slant. Without pontificating how bad it is for you I think smoking is as selfish an act to committ publicly as many other things are.

My friend is president and ceo of a fortune 500 company. New policy coming; zero smoking by the employees. It boils down to healthcare costs. He said he would go after fat asses next if he were legally allowed to.Get with the program Ed.
