What are the odds of this?
 

I am out fishing eels alone with no one else anywhere nearby. I’m into a decent pick of fish, getting a fish on average every 10-15 minutes, usually 20-25 lbs, with a few larger ones mixed in. On what would have been my fifth fish, I feel the hit, set the hook, fish pulls some drag and comes off. The eel has more water resistance than usual, so I assume that I hooked the eel on the hookset and reel in quickly. Turns out that I hooked another eel when I set the hook (my eel still hooked in the mouth, and a second eel hooked through the side). The eel that I hooked had a hook hole in its jaw. I had lost one eel earlier while fighting a fish, but was still on my second eel at the time. The only thing I can think of, since bass pretty much suck down eels in an instant, is that the eel I was fishing and the eel I had lost about a ½ hour before happened to be swimming almost right next to each other and were taken down by the same fish at the same time. What are the odds of that? Just thought I’d share.

Maybe we could offer a better idea of what happened if you told us where you were.......he he he

I'm guessing the odd's are about as even as me actually catching a fish when using eels...hasn't happened yet. I assume the other eel was missing an eye from the hook? Either way I would claim it as your precision ability is just that damn good!

One night at Ballston I caught 2 fish on one eel. Eel went through the gillplate of one and into the mouth of another.

Quite a few years ago I was fishing the Lobsterville jetty for Albies. They were in pretty good but only taking live tinker macks. The trick was to sabiki up a tinker then send him swimming off the tip. After what seemed like forever I was able to get a mack, sent it out on a small treble and had an immediate pickup. Fought the fish for a few seconds and it came unbuttoned. I reel in my line to find a mangled harbor pollock, same size as the tinker on the hook that had previously had a tinker mac?!?!?

Your eel got sucked in by a fish that obviously had another eel in is throat or belly. Unfortunately, when you set the hook the piont drove right into eel number one's side. Not anchored firmly in your intended bass. When you started to fight the fish, both eels were yanked from the basses innards. Now your standing there with two eels wondering what the heck just happened while your bass is heading south with an empty stomach.

You hooked that fish earlier, she ate eel #1.

You hooked her again, as she fought to free herself, she puked up the recently eaten eel (#1).

You luckily snagged the eel (#1) as she puked it up while at the same time...dislodging or lossening up your hook which still had eel #2 attached.

only lost one eel earlier, and i caught the fish that I hooked using it, so the eel was free out there. 1/2 hour later end up with the same eel on my hook, hooked completely through so I know i got it with the hookset (quick hookset, almost certain it wasn't in the gut, but may have been). i'm not saying it was anything miraculous, just a strange/low probability event (IMO) event.

Exactly what happened

I saw a guy at Carolina trout pond in RI catch a trout w/ a mepps. The hook wasn't in the fishs' mouth, one of the trebles went through the eye of ~size 6 or 8 hook already in the trout's jaw.

My Godfather and I were hammering LMB in the 2-3.5lb range all spring on Zoom worms and lizards. I lost a few when setting the hook on fish. My Godfather caught a 4lb fish that had a zoom worm and lizard just sitting in it's mouth. I felt bad...
