REM calls it quits

R.E.M. shocked the rock world today by announcing a wholly unexpected breakup. “As lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band,” read the not-terribly-explanatory statement on their website. “We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening."

not surprised...I think they lost it when Bill Berry left, not like he couldn't be replaced they just didn't seem to matter anymore after that
Those 80's album were the tops....I had them and wore a few out.....

Is that quote from an article from 1995?

They were terrible.

"End of the World As We Know It"......stupidest song ever!!! A lyrical masterpiece it surely isn't!

The Dad Fisherman 09-22-2011 10:34 AM

I liked a lot of there music....I just thought they had already called it quits years ago.

I bought their murmur album right after it came out, must have been early 80's. Always liked em, never saw them live though.

i always hated them but they started to finally grow on me a few years back. I dug up some of their early stuff that I remember from the radio and actually liked it.

:rotf2: I just laughed way too loud at that. The woman who's office is closest to mine thought something was wrong.
