filling in wood plugs
 

i have a few plugs that i want to finish but some have little blems, nicks etc..

can i use DAP plastic wood filler to putty things up??

if so, should i do it before or after sealing?

i want to seal with blo and paint with createx..not sure primer yet..

I would recommend using a filler that sets up as a harder material that DAP wood filler... I use Elmers 2 part damaged wood repair system... mix equal parts of the 2 puttys and it becomes rock hard overnight and sands very well. This is great for filling in the voids after placing belly wts and nicks... use this before sealing for best adhesion.

I use the same as blondeterror and have had no problems. Other builders have had success with bondo. either way filling holes and sanding is best done before sealing and paint.

I agree with Chris, I use plumbers putty, dries rock hard and is sandable for large nicks. If they are not huge, I would seal the plug, let it dry and then coat with e-tex. this will fill any blemishes, and also give you a glass clear starting point. Prime, and then paint away.

just my humble opinion, but has worked well for me.

sounds like a plan, is there a brand of plumbers putty better than another or the elmers two part stuff the same?

anyone ever after filling either blo or plastic soak the bodies?

I have used blo as part of the sealer after putty. I have never tried epoxy sealing, only used epoxy as the top coat.

Plastic Wood.....dries fast. rock hard. I know what your doing :) Take a small piece of single ply cardboard and wipe it or use a mini squegeee...index card will work nicely..seal it after.. few dips in lacquer sanding sealer will work.
