Giving up on Fishing!!
Do you ever feel where you just wanna say F'it and quit fishing. When is it enough?
|
After you buy that VS250 and sell it to me real cheap....:rotf2:
|
That's not a good feeling for someone that just bought a sweet 25' Seacraft.
But, I think everyone goes through phases of slump times. Sometimes it's good for the head to take time off from something, then when the time is right, you get back at it with renewed vigor. Or sometimes you just need a change of target. I'll go through phases where I get tired of chasing Stripers and just go after Sea Bass, Fluke, Scup, whatever. Anything can get stale after while. |
its very difficult sometimes.
I have never felt that way myself, although there have been times after losing a monster fish that my nerves needed a break. don't give up, change up. go LIGHT until you hook up with something, anything, and then make alterations to your tactics once you feel the need to. IMHO. |
I've already dusted off my golf clubs.

A lot of people quit fishing.
I think there are limits to the type of intrinsic rewards one can expect from fishing. Some people come to fishing with the notion of it becoming a replacement for a spiritual void in their lives and it does. But for most, it does not. That one I think, is the biggie: they came to fishing with unrealistic expectations of what it would do for them as a person. Art, music, literature - to me, they are more richly layered and can provide greater satisfaction on a more consistent basis. You put time into studying them, and you get rewarded, just about every time. You don't get skunked, or have technical difficulties that make the day suck, you don't puke or break something, and there's not five months when it's simply over. |
Its just a saying!!! Im enjoying every time I get a chance to fish.

That boat is sweet! I did cringe though when you made the turn into the ramp lot cuz you came awfully close to the sign at a pretty good clip!
|
I know that feeling!
one day i was out fishin at stump pond (A-1) and i got the boat stuck on top of a submerged log so bad.......... that it took me hours to get free i'm surprised i didn't have a heart attack or a stroke talk about being frustrated beyond anything imaginable i was rockin it, wigglin it, jumping all around. bumping it was a living nitemare i nearly had to jump overboard and push it off.... by the time i finally got back to shore i was still so mad i wanted to abandon every fishing thing i owned and leave it at the Dock... it took a long time to forget that day.... someday though you have such a terrific time that it'll make all the aggravation worth it and then some. |
Nice boat. Though it's not an older Potter Sea Craft. Those boats are in a class by themselve !
Your avatar is pretty disturbing though ! Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
When you give up fishing let me know.... I'll take the boat off your hands :) I already have the matching truck some nothing will change.
|
Tisk tisk. buck up kid, its the 23rd!!!
I learned a valuable lesson about not giving up today, boy:wall: I left my spot an hour earlier than i should have. those situations make me want to FISH MORE, not less fishing still picks at me like a knife in the brain cuz I can figure out most things quickly and be adequate to good at them. but figuring out surfcasting is hard |
Did i ever said I was giving up... lol.... Just bored see what members thoughts were.. LMAFO

"You don't get skunked, or have technical difficulties that make the day suck" Well I don't know Joe...I once spent the better part of 5 hrs. learning the guitar solo to Kid Charlemagne...a "technical difficulty" that really sucked! You give up fishing & what are the alternatives...golf..NFW...yard work...NFWx2(gotta have something for the wife to do while you're fishing). I say suck it up and fish....or I'll report you to the SeaCraft brotherhood.

Jon. Searched youtube but couldn't find you from back in the late 70s - early 80s. This is the best I can come up with Kid Charlemagne Larry Carlton guitar solo, Steely Dan - YouTube |

This guy is good Ron and has it down to T...but I bet he didn't learn that from the vinyl. I wore a groove in that record and my wife cringes when I mention the song even today! Between Kid C and Yes's "Yours is No Disgrace" I think she was about ready to walk out! Hmmmm...should have worked a little more on both of them...bet I'd have a bigger boat and bank account today! Although the boat is a 71 Potter!
PS Any vids of me from the past would be on Super 8 ;-) and you may not have recognized me due to a somewhat different hair style back then! PPS Joe....read your avatar! :-) PPPS Goose ....like 4,459 posts perhaps? |
I've been so tired from travel and work, I don't even find fishing a good rush.

Catching fish is nice but is only the cherry on top of the whole experience. I just enjoy being outdoors and the rhythmic casting of a late night on the beach. The crashing waves, salt spray on your face and the chill of an autumn night that refreshes your soul with each breath.
I have found the same with hunting. I will admit, I don't get many deer but, I enjoy the quiet time in the woods. Time seems to slow down and my blood pressure seems to go down with it. Fishing and hunting allows me to catch my breath is a crazy world where human beings were not meant to be exposed to external external stimuli of todays magnitude. |
