Ok after much thought and deliberation I have finally decided.

I'm going with an all-star/patriot 1209. I'm gonna wrap it myself. No diamonds/fishes/or names, but it'll get the job done.

Since I've started this wrapping hobby I have become completely obsessed.

I figure I can take on one more project before the jiggin' season starts. I have a rod that will get me through the herring time and now I'll have something else to do on those weekend nights.

Right now here are my thoughst.

All-Star/Patriot 1209 it will throw conventional. Most likely with an abu 7000cl. I'm thinking 7 or 8 guides, but here is where I need help.

Stripper = 30,25,20,16,12,12,12 and whatever tip. Now i'll spend more time pondering over SiC guides vs. Hardaloy.

Am I on the right track with the guides?????

That set of guides should work. I have the lamiglas XRA 1205 and I used 10, 10, 12, 12, 16, 16, 20, 25 Hardloy with a 12 ring PST tip. I use either a 7000C3 or a 6600C5 mag with this rod. This set-up has worked very well. If your fishing on rocks I would stick with the Hardloy guide but I would use a PST tip no matter what.

BNLG hardloy 30,25,20,16,16,12,12, #10 SiC tip
or 25,20,16,16,12,12,12 with #10 SiC tip.

Striper Guide no further than 30" from Center of reel seat.

I'm curious, why the hardaloy if you'll be near rocks. Is this hardaloy tougher???? I've never heard that?

now colors...i'm thinking, grey underwraps...red over-wraps...????

or maybe red over gold under-wraps???

Good choice on the Patriot 1209, I made the 1208 and it is awesome!
Stick with the Hardloy guides. As far as the colors I used the Superior lite Blue w/Holo gold accent. Looks good. I wanted to contrast somewhat the blank color

SiC guides are nice but they are so hard that if wacked they will crack and if fishing the canal you know whats going to happen:D

i know the feeling of slipping down the rocks.....and using the only thing left to brace your fall....in my case an xra1322...lost two guides....

Outstanding choice ;) Stroth!!! I must say a set of the TiN guides in silver, blue, gold or Holographics would be almost too good looking for the canal. But durable enough. The zirconia rings are very impact resistant. They are much more flexible than SIC. Zirconia allows the manufacturers to reduce the size of the ring and press it into a stainless frame with no problems where it would be impossible for hardloye or SIC. Don't worry about the durability especially with our new super strong frames and beefed up rings. They're awesome looking and built like a brick house. The 50 mm rings are also available in all the colors but the Silver.

well now I'm going to have another decision to make....

this rod has to be pretty cheap and tough...i think i want hardaloy guides.

and NO PAC BAY!!

Good man, We've got our Hallide (hardloye) that are much better looking and less expensive than the Fuji's in Chrome and black HLG's and HLC's. We've also got the Aluminim oxides in the AOTV and AOG up to size 50 in black and TiCH. They're durable as anything we've got and they're about the lowest priced guide in the line.
