What the deal with this?

Ok I was in the doctors office waiting to get called. I was reading through a Yachting mag looking at the ships and dreaming, when I noticed most if not all had this stipulation *Not for sale to US Residents while in US waters what gives? Some of these boat or ships are located in Florida, and they are all asking price in US dollars, sounds like some sort of scam to screw the government to me....

Here is an example...

Westport Brokerage

Look under accommodations.

large yachts will be owned by foreign shell companies and will fly that country's flag. BVI, Caymans, etc.

then then don't have to comply to all of the same rules we have, like hiring only american crew, safefty inspections, etc..

But I think that there are huge duties they have to pay if they sell to a US company/citizen.

That is my best guess.

They can sell to a US citizen, just in a non-US location.
Avoids taxes etc.

last time i was in Ft Lauderdale most of the yachts had SA for their port not USA. Thats how the rich folks beat paying luxury tax. Just ask Sen Kerry he can explain it to you. You know they want to eleminate mortgage interest and real estate tax as tax deductions so they wont have to raise taxes on the rich. We need a tax revolution.

Kerry's yacht is US flagged, registered in RI. Huge difference here.

John Henry's yacht isn't US flagged. :rotf2:

:rotf2:

Yeah, Kerry only saved about half a million in sales tax by registering it in RI and also doesn't pay any yearly excise tax by keeping it there.

I saw a big one from Bikini island up in Maine the other day.

Does that mean they must constantly declare to customs when they arrive to port?

I want to have this problem some day.

I belive they can get some sort of a cruising pass once they are inside US waters so they don't have to continuously clear in every port of call.

Hit New England Boatworks, the old Hood yard next door, both in Portsmouth and Newport Shipyard.

Nobody is paying their "fair share". :rotf2:

RI being a "tax haven" for yachts has saved the industry down there.

State of MA would get way more money going after John Henry for his foreign flagged beast.
Where's the whining there?

Nah, not on Kerry's boat, not fast enough. :hihi:
