? about lawn tractor
 

I have a Craftsman lawn tractor. It is an 18hp with a hydro trans. The other day I used a floor jack to lift the rear end to remove a rear wheel. After having a tube put in the wheel and reinstalling it, I lowered the tractor. When I went to move it I have NO tranny. It starts fine and the deck engages but the tranny will not . Not forward or back. I drove it up to the drive way and it drove fine, an hour later....NADA!!! There bis a lever to engage and disengage the tranny for free wheeling...tried it both in and out...still NADA. Did I do something that Effed up the tranny? Are you not supposed to jack these things up? This is what happens when a carpenter plays mechanic!

Any suggestions will help.

never heard of a hydro tranny
but create a platform with a ramp
with some Lumber
so you can visually inspect
the underside without it CRUSHING you
and then look for a squashed Line
is the only thing i can suggest

Hydro Trans = Hydrostatic Transmission = Automatic (no shifting gears)

Sounds to me where you have a lever to engage and disengage the transmission, you may have broken or bent a linkage in that engaging lever down underneath the chassis when you jacked it up. You're going to have to get under there to have a peek at it.

Although I lifted it by the trailer hitch I just put it up on car ramps and crawled under it.....no crushed lines. In fact I don't see any visable damage.

Just curious...is the axle turning and not the wheel? Perhaps when you reinstalled the wheel you missed a keyway or some type of a locking pin that locks the wheel to the axle? Just guessing. I have a hydro Deere LT150 and there is a pin that comes out from the rear of the tractor that you push in and out to engage/disengage the tranny.

Sometimes the fluid leaks out of mowers with just a fairly small tilt of the machine. Check the tranny fluid level.

I have a tractor with this type of tranny, and in front of and below the front seat is a lever that I can put into neutral or high for quicker speeds. I have always kept it where the guy who delivered it put it saying it worked best their. You had to disenegage the tranny tranny somehow. It wouldn't just stop working. I have lifted my tractor in several different ways. Sometime I have just picked it up and put it on blocks. Used leverage with 2 x 6's under the transaxle, but mostly like Craid said, make a ramp of sorts, a safe one, that will give you a little work space underneath. Theng go on line to the manufacturers web site and download the schematics for the entire tractor. Look at the pages carefully that show the tranny. Or just print out those pages. You'll see something probably/hopefully when compaing the pics to the actual tractor. Every manufacturer has the stuff on-line.
