My arm is still in a sling since surgery last week, don't know when or if I will get out.

Hookedagain 10-20-2011 02:33 PM

I let two small does walk by in hopes that something larger would walk by,,,NADA!!
Seems to be a lot of coyote in my usual spot so switched to plan B.

Very windy out there today, left early.

Sgt_Nutz 10-20-2011 05:29 PM

4 pointer Monday @ 7:30 am. :) Already in the freezer. Heart is cooking as I type.

NEXT2NUN 10-20-2011 07:21 PM

good job Sgt. went out this aft wind was blowing so hard i was getting seasick in my treestand. absolutly no acorns around this year, how about where you are hunting?

Sgt_Nutz 10-20-2011 08:26 PM

No acorns and no buck sign anywhere I have been. Went to my shotgun season stand and it payed off. Deer was full of greens. Couldn't tell if it was the wild variety or the neighbors bushes...

Goose 10-20-2011 08:28 PM

Very little acorns out there and poaching has taken its toll too

last year ...there were so many acorns that when you
tried walking in the back yard your feet would roll
out from under you...

and i was diving for shelter from being pelted
as the wind blew from a HAIL of acorns

this year that same tree has not even ONE acorn.

None around here either and I posted already about the squirrels devouring a holly tree for the berries, must have pruned every branch on the tree at least a foot!

I just cut the grass and went down back to dump the bagger and there was a small buck having a field day on the overgrowth at the edge of the power lines. Couldn't get the phone out fast enough once I spotted him. I did get these pics of his handy work on the saplings. Looks like I have to dig out the groung blind.

Maybe this Sasquatchcamo fairy is out chasing them all away? Or maybe his home stomping ground is just Wal-Mart....

fishbones 11-07-2011 11:48 AM

A friend of mine got a nice buck this morning near my house. I'll see if I can get him to post a pic here when he gets a chance.

TheSpecialist 11-09-2011 02:41 PM

My buddy lives at 49, and his kid has the house next to the lawnmower thats for sale. Let's see the pic...

fishbones 11-09-2011 02:55 PM

I just sent him a message to post the pic and the details on the site when he gets a chance.

Here it is. This is Seamule who is on the site but doesn't post much. I'll try to get him to post the story and details later.

Nice deer, the genes are strong in the deer around there, both of my 8 pointers from there have the same style of rack.

Sundowner 11-10-2011 11:56 AM

Nice 6. Looks like a good size body too. Haven't been hunting here in Rhody this yr yet, but The cabin in P.A. is just around the corner. One of the guys always shoots a deer in MD the day before we get there so we always have venison on the return trip. I am feeling lucky this yr though

Fly Rod 11-10-2011 12:54 PM

Congratulations!:)

I shot her on the 3rd.

We named this buck Achillies. I saw him in person last week. He's # 1 on my Hit list.

They are in the Rut now.

TheSpecialist 11-19-2011 07:21 PM

I got out this morning. I had an 8 come by my stand at 650am, and walked within 15-20 yards I was never able to get a clear shot. The leaves were surprisingly quiet this am and he was on top of me before I heard him. I tried a rattling sequence to get him back , fail. About 20 minutes later a 6 came in from the direction the 8 went. They were onto my drag, Code Blue Doe in Estrous... The 6 never came into a lane and mosied around me to the swamp.

Sundowner 12-02-2011 09:46 AM

I got back from P.A. and I agree, no acorns. Got to the cabin with 1/2 hr daylight eve b4 opening day so went straight to "my spot" and put up the tree stand. Come noon monday I was perplexed by the lack of squirrels, then a scan of the hill top showed no sq nests. Got out there way too late this year. If my cousin gets married the sat after thanksgiving again I am gonna kick her butt

Sundowner 12-02-2011 09:50 AM

Thats a tart 8 X. Keep posted, thats a shooter

TheSpecialist 12-03-2011 11:32 PM

I dropped two does today.

Matt D 12-04-2011 10:22 AM

I got a 3 pointer on Friday. Very little sign where I normally hunt in Zone 4N. 4 of us hunting all 6 shotgun days have seen a grand total of 5 deer so far.

SurfCaster413 12-04-2011 10:26 PM

It sucks around here matt d I totally agree I havent seen anything yet and my buddies jumped 2 does thats it. I dont even know where to go now.
