I want my next boat to have a pair of these
|
even one G-250 would be nice
refueling might be tricky tho |
Best laid out marine diesel I've seen in my life: Cummins MerCruiser Diesel | TDI 3.0L
|
Nice idea but not much bang for the package size. 8.9l is big for only 320hp. And 1500 lbs. whoa.
Fuel storage is a boat problem too. Would have to figure on the LNG option otherwise you'd need lots of gas, this probably would be the hard part. |

give it 10 years. |
i am not sure if i would want to tolerate the smell from that natural gas all day.

I hear a lot of good things about Iveco marine engines. (diesel)
|
I'll bet Westport could convert any of those models into an OEM LNG engine (with pilot diesel). Need cryogenic fuel tank as well.
I love this company Westport Innovations (Stock symbol: WPRT). I think they are a ffantastic investment and are likely to get taken over by any one of Cummins, Volvo, Daihmler, Ford or even Catepillar. Westport is the market leader in nat gas engines in transportation and in the right spot at the right time. stock currently $28.94. |

LNG is great for heating homes, making electricity, use in plants etc where you can plumb it directly but for vehicles the problem is fuel storage. You need lots of volume. It is do-able but getting any kind of range on these kinds of vehicles are tough.

A PAIR OF WHAT ???
ENGINES !!!!!!!
I thought we were going to see a young lady in a bikini !!!!:smash: All boats are (supposed) to come equipped with those; according to all the boat ads I see. :biglaugh::biglaugh: |

Liquid natural gas is currently the only viable alternative to diesel for long haul, heavy duty truck ing. These trucks get about 4 miles to the gallon as opposed to 6 miles per gallon for their diesel counterparts. Not sure how it would do in a boat, but based on the trucks they would have 1/3 less efficiency so would require 50% more fuel for the same range. LNG fuel would have to be stored cryogenically and vented.
The good news is: -$2/gallon equivalent cheaper in price -zero particulate emissions -30% less CO2/greenhouse gas emmissions -quieter -reduces our dependence on foreign oil and single handedly could eliminate our need for ANY OPEC oil -allows us to brings our solidiers home and have a higher chance of keeping them here -provides US jobs needed by the unemployed and returning soldiers (LNG long hauld truck ing would produce an estimte 500,000 new jobs in the US from drilling NG through engine technicians) -provides reductions in shipping costs (due to fuel savings) that will provide economic stimulus throughout the entire economy -provides a huge reduction to the US deficit As things get more desperate in the economy and the voices get louder (Wall St. Protests going global for example) politicians tend to ultimately make the right choices before disaster happens. Hopefully we reach that point on Nat Gas soon. Then I can buy my new boat ;-) |
