Excise Tax Question
On the very day I haul the boat out to end the 2011 season, I get a boat excise tax bill in the mail for 2012.... Is this early? Or am I just forgetting when I have paid it in the past?

most city, town taxes are set in July, the fiscal year and thus city and towns are looking to get taxes early.
|
2012 Fiscal year is from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012. If anything, I would say Marblehead is a little late!

Some towns don't charge excise tax on boats :)

We paid 2011 excise taxes on our two cars as usual
then we replaced both cars with Newer versions and we received another excise tax bill from the town I guess  owe that because of the new purchase BUT, do you have to pay excise taxes twice in one YEAR? |

Refund, you need to see the tax assessor/collector and ask for it. There is no way for them to monitor everything (except collections) so it's up to you to get whats owed back to you... You can pay it 100 times in a year.. You pay per **REGISTERED** vehicle... FYI when you do go to see the collector bring your "canceled" registration as proof... |

Raven... I would take both TAX BILLS, for the old and new vehicle and go to visit your Assessors Office. Ask for an adjustment on the old vehicle tax and an adjustment on the new vehicle tax.
I believe the tax is adjustable from the date of removing the old vehicle from you and the date you acquired the new vehicle. May not be much but in these times every bit helps in your pocket rather in the Govmunts pocket. |
