Lead prices from the London Metal Exchange (LME), news , charts, historical prices.

$0.87 per lb when bought in bulk in commodity exchange volumes

UserRemoved1 11-11-2011 04:23 PM

Lead is running $2-2.50 a lb on the commercial market, it can be had on CL and Ebay for $1.00-1.50 a lb depending on what you want and how clean it is.

scrap batteries were 9.00 each for the standard size .when I scapped out on WEds .
They all agree that prices are going down with the [war] ending .

That,s not going to stop them from stripping my listings:smash:

I wish they would take the whole building / then it would be easier to sell ;;:soon: :jump1::jump1:

Go to your local gun range . You can sift out a 5 gal bucket full in short time and melt it down. You get all you want from used bullets and it will prob be free. Ron

If you are making lots of jigs , virgin pure lead makes life a lot easier. If you are doing just a small amount , then you can melt down almost anything. I know that when Smokey and I did thousands , the pure lead made it so much easier as the optimum pouring temp stays the same. when you use scrap lead , you have to play with each crucible load to get a good pouring temp. ASlso , some crap in there can mean you have to pour at a higher temp. this means increased risk from fumes and also beats the hell out of the specialty molds we have for skin jigs. For the regular do-it aluminum molds , pouring temp just means you may have to let the molds cool more often but if you have plaster or rubber molds for specialty shapes , high pouring temps will kill them fast.

I recommend that you buy pure virgin lead in ingot form.

A good way to melt down lead to get the slag out of it is an old 2 burner Coleman stove and a stainless pot. It's how I make my ingots and it is done outside so fumes are less of an issue.Pure lead is getting hard to find up here as most of it has been given to China by the idiot politicians. These morons want to outlaw it completely forgetting the clay is full of the stuff LOL.

i read online that the state of MA is trying to ban all lead materials used for fishing because of wildlife. maybe already passed and will be in effect for 2012 on freshwater tackle. something about the loons?

Any lead product weighing less than 1 oz. including jigs, sinkers, spinner baits ect. as of 1-1-12. Lead fishing tackle has been banned for years in all DCR resevoirs namely the Quabbin, Wachusett and there tributaries.
