Why did I do this?

The throttle and shift controls got a bit stiff over the years and I noticed it a lot this past season.

So....I considered the fly by wire etec system; all electronic with multifunction gages too. But the cost is insane. Soooo NO....

So...I will just change out my cables...thats when things went wrong.

Just to disconnect from the controller (its a side mount hidden) was a nightmare. But I got the cables out and they were kinda stiff but still worked OK,. Hey 40 bucks a piece for new ones. No brainer.

But while I had the controller off to undo the cables I made a BRILLIANT decison to take it out as well and service it. NIghtmare #2. But I got it out stripping a couple of bolts. Put in on the workbench and thought I'll just clean off what I see and relube it. But then I figured I would take off this part and that part and the other part. I keep finding more crappy grease and dry areas.

So yes I end up with the whole thing disassembled on my bench. There are over 40 pieces. I took some pictures while disassembling, but I think I had better but it together soon before I forget more than I remember.

Another small job goes viral !!!!!:smash::smash:

I'll order new cable this winter and hope I get the controller back together properly.:fury::fury:

BOAT OWNING IS SOOOOO MUCH FUN.....

Do a search for the schematic and parts list. You can usually find that stuff online.

It's going to be a long off season so this might be just the thing to help you through, take your time there is no hurry now.

Did it just for giggles and VIOLA....I never thought I would find it.
OMC 1995 controller side mount concealed.

Many parts are obsolete, but its got the diagram !!:)

So there are actually over 60 parts.

Nice, now you just have to figure out in which order things go back together!:)

:)Isn't boating fun?

This happens every time I take anything apart...you had one problem that you think is fixable...take it apart and now you have multiple problems some are of the "unfixable" type. This is why God invented Winter...so you can solve these nightmares.

Last winter I took apart a windless...had a similar nightmare.
