Insulating ductwork

Anyone done it? Or had it done? Forced hot air only, not ac. Mine is pretty much all accessible in basement, so I am thinking it is time to insulate and increase the efficiency of the system. Input appreciated.

Today you have a bunch of different routes you can take.If you plan on doing it yourself this pretty much the only way you'll save money, unless you plan on changing out your unit.
There are a bunch of Supply house's on the North Shore but the first one to mind is SG.Torrice CO.80 Industrial Way Wilmington, MA.
You'll need to buy a stapler and foil tape and most importantly mask's don't F with this stuff:smash:
I found this quick on You Boob thought it should give you a pretty good idea.

Wrap it as tight as you can,...staple it.....then run the foil tape over the seam.
Use a squeegee or your hand (with a glove) to really seal the tape good. It has a tendency to dry out and lift over time, if not properly sealed.

A good sharp filet knife works well for cutting the insulation wrap.

Zip ties are very helpful to seal the ends. Zip and wrap with the duct tape.

Vic

PS: Forgot to mention, a carpet knife works really well for cutting.

First seal the joints with duct sealant, trust me it helps more than fiberglass insulation.

Ross, I have some left over insulation for doing that. You can have it, almost a full roll. 5/0 did mine so it can't be all that difficult :)
