Step drill?
 

Hi all,
I forgot what this type of drill bit is called, I was walking through Lowes and spied this from 20 feet away. The size is 3/8", its good when using 1/4" weights.

yes those are step bits
those ones are obviously designed to drill pocket holes for screws but it's the same idea as the ones MikeCC sells at his shop for doing belly holes in plugs to handle both the swivel hole and the grommet holesink in one shot.
I have a couple sizes

Those are kreg bits, made for the kreg jigs which allow you to put a screw into a 90degree joint at an angle from inside...completely hidden on the outside.

Don't recommend those bits for plug making they are very dangerous...the centers are small and have a tendency to catch and break...can do some damage beware.

There are two styles, one has a flat bottom on the larger size, one has the standard taper for a wood screw.

its a brad point bit,,, use a fostner bit

Those are a straight grind in the picture there isn't any brad points on them those bits dont come with brad points or it wouldnt drill in the jig right. The center drill is a split point.

mcmaster.com has all the step drills on their site. Probably one of the best places to buy.

I use them for tail weights....

Scott hit it onthe head. i'm building some drawers for my work bench and got one of the kits. Be carefull using them around hardwood as they break easy and do snd peices flying. Tips are small for using #6 screws that go with the pocket hole kit.
