Speaking of Trimming the Fat - Portly Angler 2012

Who is in for a 2012 Portly Angler competition. I understand I am still portly though this year did not produce much angling. I put back ten of last years lost 20 but aim to do better this year.

Any volunteers to help coordinate as I still have stuff I haven't finished from this year :wall:

tattoobob 11-23-2011 02:22 PM

I really need to drop 30 pounds before I quit smoking, because we all know that quitting smoking you put on about 20 pounds so that's my goal lose 30 pounds quit smoking and try to keep the weight off afterwards

My mother just had a blood test Tuesday and she asked them how her cholesterol level was when they called this morning and when they told her it was great she cracked up. Her doctor dropped her to one a week back in July/August because they were causing muscle spasms and she stopped taking them completly at the end of September. I really wonder if half the stuff they get people to take is even necessary or just made up to increase sales.

I'm in. I can barely get in to my suits. At $300+ a piece it's cheaper to lose weight.

I'll play along what are the rules?

I have just gotten addicted to spinning class. Been six times already and hitting one first thing in the morning, before turkey feast tomorrow.

Lost 11 lbs in 1 1/2 weeks 25 more to go

Redsoxticket 11-23-2011 10:01 PM

In all fairness the challenge should be calculated as a "percentage" of weight lost. (weightloss / total start weight)
The smaller portly anglers to lose 20lbs involves more diet and exercise then a larger portly. The larger portly probably can loss 10lbs in just one dump and another 10 lb. in retained water.

20lb/200lb = 10.00%
20lb/300/b = 6.66%

I know for me, finding the reason too has to be greater than the reason not too. I want to lose about 20 lbs myself. I know I will though.

striper774 11-24-2011 06:03 AM

It's funny you all are talking about trimming the fat right before our biggest meal of the year. What's your game plan after the swelling goes down.

Raven 11-24-2011 06:35 AM

flat lining ......... not loosing not gaining

#1 quit smoking .. hardest to do, but most rewarding ,, That will get you in the life change frame of mind to make your work outs more intense .. Forget about the weight ,, Think about increasing your fitness level and get all the sugar out of your diet . classes at the gym are great . I want to fish Block 20 more yrs. with you .. Stop killing yourself please .

piemma 11-24-2011 07:09 AM

Dropped 20 in the Spring and kept it off all summer splitting wood and doing Atkins.
I hate low carb wraps now but they do help me maintain.

I also buy Dreamfield pasta by the case as it's super low in carbs and I'm Italian. I cannot live without pasta once a week. 5 net carbs in the Dreamfield pasta.

Just wanted you to know how impressed I was at how much weight you dropped when I saw you at Block. You obviously were very committed and I commend you for that.:claps:

Rappin Mikey 11-24-2011 07:47 AM

I've lost 23# since the last week of August. Then again, almost dying and losing a quick 15 in a week got me off to a good start.

You should go by who lowers their BMI the most %! It is not just tonnage but height, too, that contributes.

This thread and it being Thanks Giving Day I will take my time to say
Thank you, Dr. Howard Berlin, my Cardiologist at the time just before my triple by-pass.
Laying on a gurney in the E.R. at around 1:00 AM and this guy says,"What kind of Cigaretts DID YOU USED TO Smoke"! What, is that a trick question? The Doctor says:"You will promise me RIGHT NOW that you will never smoke again and I will make you well!" I did, He did and here I am. 24 years ago!!!!

Sea Dangles 11-24-2011 01:36 PM

Good words
Great message

I know a lot of smokers who are broke, yet they are smoking a car payment a month,or even a college fund.

bart 11-25-2011 09:10 AM

I'm in. I put on about 10lbs after I quit smoking and broke my foot. So now I need to lose about 40lbs.
