Java Joe No More
Think I'm getting old. I quit coffee a few weeks ago. All of a sudden, I started becoming more sensitive to caffeine - it made me very nervous.
Back in the day, I used to make this stuff called "fishing tonic" a thermos of sugared coffee with several No Doze tablets ground up in it when pulling all-nighters. Now coffee brings on an anxiousness feeling that is not pleasant. I guess it's fairly common. |
We're all getting old :smash:
Haven't ditched coffee yet but I may cut back more |
I cut out the energy drinks for the same reason...all I do is Coffee now....just 1 cup a day though.
getting old sucks |
Couple cups black coffee in the morning and nothing with caffeine after noon!
|
It does suck. Stuff you can't do, things you can't eat. And then there's the realization that the rest of your life will most likely proceed along one or two trajectories, but probably just one - like end game in chess.

Coffee is a substitute for good nutrition
until it finally...... looses it's luster.... then you have to fall back on slow burning fuel foods with sufficient protein or choose a Herb like Ginseng. then coffee becomes just a favored beverage instead of the main stay go to-> go drink. |
That's true. I have a protein shake with milk and I feel good and can think straight. I don't miss coffee because the anxiousness was so unpleasant - it really turned me off to it.
I've read that in the late 50's and early 60's speed was a huge recreational drug and not just among young people. A lot of writers, established artists, housewives, even the president and his wife were on it. No thanks. |
the problem of quitting coffee
which i found out ... when i tried....
was how often you run into it.... where ever you go someone has some or asking you if you want one or your smelling it...being bombarded by tv commercials seeing the lines as it begs you to join in... a social thang.... making it quite difficult |
But Coffee is Sooooooooooooo Goooooood
|
Theres always decaf

Coffee is the best thing ever. I've been told that it makes you more manly and attractive to the opposite sex.

if your stealing a car
no one pays attention if there's a cup of coffee in your hand.... |
I think that as you age it's important that you add new things to your life. Because as time moves along, there are going to be a significant number of subtractions and if you don't actively seek out additions, your life will feel increasingly empty of enjoyment.
I lost coffee this year, but I've picked up and increasing appreciation, knowledge and understanding of jazz. I'm not nearly an expert, but it has been a rewarding learning experience, and it's something that can be enjoyed frequently. I also started going to the library one night a week and just looking around - that has proved immensely enjoyable. |
Tea is underrated for health improvement...
Green tea really gives you a Boost.... especially your immune system where as coffee just makes your eye muscles twitch (Well spoken Joe about subtractions /additions.) |

Glad you are able to get out Joe,and it's nice the library is close enough that it doesn't set off your ankle bracelet.

Now that's witty.

That's rough. Coffee would be a tough one for me to give up. I drink a lot of it pretty much all day. I drink less in the late afternoon and evening but occasionally I like a cup then as well. In the morning it is the first thing I go to. I would have a withdrawal headache by 11:00am if I did not have a cup.
I found this thread by doing a search on coffee. I was looking for a post about coffee makers on boats. Last year I put a small one-cup-at-a-time Keurig coffee maker on-board. Did not know if it would work out or not then as it would have to be run off of the inverter when away from the dock. It works great. I love that little machine. That has got to be the biggest poor-mans luxury item going on a boat. To make a cup of fresh brewed hot coffee in the middle of the day while fishing on a boat is fantastic. My brother came out fishing with me one day this fall. It was cold and windy. Fishing was slow, we decided to move to another location. I asked him...you want a cup of coffee? He said sure! I take out the machine and in a couple minutes hand him a steaming hot cup of Paul Newman's extra Bold in an insulated cup...He looked at me and said."making coffee while underway???....That is awesome" |
I took an introductory jazz course at CCRI that was very difficult. I never really had a grasp on it and ended up dropping the class. Still managed a degree in General Studies that has really served me well in life.
On a side note, the best experience CCRI ever afforded me the was the opportunity to work an "internship" under Joe's tutelage. Yes, Joe has been called many things; eccentric, witty, feminine, etc. But the one thing that one simply cannot comprehend is the level of intellect this man exhibits. Have you ever seen a cat eat a Gibb's needlefish? Classic example of market and advertising strategy. You just can't learn this stuff in a classroom. In all seriousness though, Joe is a very generous, insightful, intelligent person, and his writing reflects that. Cheers to you, Joe. Thanks for an easy A  |
Gee whiz, thanks Bart. Going to the vet's holding a thrashing cat with a 7" Gibbs Needlefish in its mouth, that was a tough one.
|
that would have made a good youtube vid...
Now back to original topic, the same thing happened to me with weed. I used to love weed, smoked it on a recreational basis through college and as I continued into the 'real world'... but by the time I was 25 it would make me all anxious & jittery to the point that I had to completely stop, not because I wanted to "quit" but because it wasn't enjoyable at all. So weird how we change. i love the library. |
Weed ,coffee, fishing....throw in a sunrise after an all nighter and you have me longing for summer.

and more
