Looking for a chuck
Jaw chuck unless there is something better. Has to be easy on the wallet too.... Anyone have one they want to get rid of or don't use? For my Jet 1014 midi. Thanks.
A steb center is better if you are planning to turn plugs.
George, got the steb. This would be for bowls, ornaments and stuff like this.... see around the 3:00 minute mark.
HAND-TURNED PAINTED CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT - YouTube |
Ross-
Best value is finding a used Nova , vicmark, or oneway chuck on CL, Woodcentral, or some other ww forum site. For new check woodcraft, rockler, highland hardware, packard woodworks, craft supplies Penn State industries has their barracuda chuck line but i prefer the chucks from the Nova, Vicmarc, or One way... |
Nova G3 Wood Lathe Chuck REDUCED
not local but a great buy.... I often look across all US with search all of CL ... its out there somewhere call the guy and see if he would ship it to you for $150 or 160.... pay via Paypal the G3 is a GREAT chuck.... will last your lifetime and your kids too |
I'm looking for a TWO JAW chuck with either a morse taper or a 1 1/8tpi screw back for the Vega....if anyone runs across one please I'll give you a commission........these are EXTREMELY rare.
Thanks, Chris. I had no idea how pricey these could be vs. the price of the lathe... Just not going to be able to swing it for a month or so.... Or should I say I can't justify it right before Christmas, which is scaled back as it is.
Ross- you can borrow my Nova chuck for a few days to make some ornaments if you want... i am on the cape now and will be back in Lex this afternoon

Last time I saw Chuck he was passed out on the corner table at the chatham squire.
Paul I been looking for a while. I'd be interested in anything. Not 4 jaw just two.

Not sure this is what you are looking for Scott but it may be.
sorry Ross only have one 4 jaw and I am keeping it. BTW I got your PM. No hurry it is just sitting here waiting for your addy. P.
Paul the type I'm looking for has 2 jaws that clamp together like a set of bench vise jaws. Just two parallel chuck jaws. Tnx for looking though.
oh well. back under the bench it goes for another millennium.
Would a three jaw be easier for centering?
Absolutely. But 4 jaw will hold better with less pressure, squash part, at least in my trade.

Ross I'm looking for a 2 jaw for a specific reason. What needs to be turned can't be on center :)
3 jaw for round or 4 jaw for square. |
Scott you have a lathe? Make a chuck specific for what you want out of alum. 4 jaw using just 2 jaws won't work? Make a couple adapters for the 2 jaws in use on the 4 jaw. Just some thoughts.

yea I tried the 2 jaws trick it didn't hold it good enough. The jaws need to be about 2" or more wide.
Kinda like a robot gripper hand |
