Mounting electronics in CC/ interference with compass

When reading the installation instructions on some of the FF/chatplotters ect...it says: "compass safe distance = 1 m" One meter? on a CC? that is impossible!
Have you guys had any compass interference issuse after you monted any electronics in the console?

S/M =====I had a real problem a few years ago with the speakers to the stereo=========they had to be far away
My compass is dead on & mounted between my gps & f/f
My radio & external speaker are mounted above so there is no problem with them/////////////////

clammer...thanks. I can understand a speaker...it generally has a large magnet intsalled...but there should not be a 1 m distance on an LCD device. I am just going to have to install it and find out if my heading changes when I turn it on I guess.

I agree, and mine are not located that far apart///////////

I also noticed in the instructions about being 1m away when I installed my GPS. Both my fish finder & gps are about 3" away from my compass and the compass is right-on. trial & error may be the only way to find out. Good luck!!!

Thanks...it just freaked me out seeing 1 meter. I recall my other boat had them closer then that and it seemed OK. Like you mine will be a few inches away...not 37 in.

I've not had a problem either. Although I have a walk-around, the electornics are stillreal close to each other.

i would say my chartplotter is 12" from the compass, and the new fishfinder is right next to the Chartplotter, so probably 18" from compass.

No problems with anything.

But what is a compass for anyway ?????:smash:

Van, I suppose you really don't need a compass until all electronics crap...and then there will not be any interference to worry about and the compass should be fine! :p

There ya go !!!!!:laughs: :laughs:

PS.
Got the broken bolt out of the engine just fine, put the new one, did a bit of bottom paint touch-up, waxed the hull, finished the transducer for thenew FF and i should be in the slip Thursday.

Blowing that day off for some bait hunting too.:D

I would have to drag a compass behind mine to get it to work. Just too much stuff aboard to mess it up. But get heading info from GPS and FF until I lose power--then I'll use my nose.
