line testing machine at SWE (this Thursday, 2.9)

Ever wonder if an Improved Clinch or Palomar is really a stronger knot when attaching braid to a swivel? Alberto or Albright? Clinch or Palomar when tying up a mono leader? Do any of those even get close to fancier bimini, offshore swivel, and PR knots? Are your knots consistent or does the break strength vary from knot to knot? With this machine you can easily find out.
Not sure if we'll be having one on one battles this year, although we're certainly not stopping anyone if you're feeling competitive. Plus I'm always amused when swivels approach the sound barrier before crashing into people's knuckles.... 6PM until 8:30PM or so this Thursday, 2.9.2012. Pizza will be ordered at some point and 15% off all terminal tackle (swivels, leader, etc) will be in effect. Knot Night - YouTube |
Hey Pete, it was nice talking with you and Peter today about Zeebaas and all of the new products that you have. Going to try to make it down for one of your seminars on Thursday.....

The machine is the greatest thing ever...
Very entertaining to watch the connections that we trust breaking FAR below what we would expect and other knots performing much better. Not particularly a good thing to have in a tackle shop as it relates to productivity, going to have to chase the staff away from it to get anything done today... Need a few more tests to be sure but I don't think I'm ever tying another clinch in mono. Uni-knot is apparently far superior... On to the Palomar. |
Actual break strength of 30# Fireline? 75.8 pounds...

Pete, ive never not trusted my improved clinch after that night we were trying to break that knot off of the lobster pot at the rockpile. That was the test for me.

cant make it tonight. :fury: can you test the ta clips and the breakaway clips on there? see if theyll hold true to suggested weights? |

Thanks! |
When those machines test, do they do a slow pull? Can they be made to a shock-pull? I'd like to see what kind of a shock force lines and knots can withstand. That's something I like about mono lines - the stretch, I think they're superior when it comes to withstanding a shock pull.

Didn't see this post until this morning, so we didn't get to test any clips. Hopefully we can get the machine back next year, there was a lot of eye opening data last night. |

I would feel confident the big clips will never straighten out on a bass, up in the air about the mediums, and the smalls I'd never use for anything other than FW bass or schoolies. Personally, I only use Breakaway Spin clips and I've never had one fail |
