Striper Finning Around in A Back Estuary Today
Just happened to see it. At least 36 inches in length, just swimming around in 4 ft. of water. Stayed around for a few minutes and then it was gone.

A couple more stripers and a giant gray heron today in the back bay estuary.

If it were a freshwater estuary (leading to a saltwater bay), could it have been a carp?
I have seen carp "tail-finning" in the spring when they're rooting around the backwater marshes. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE for a early spring fishing season, considering how crappy a winter we had (ice season was way too short). I guess I should break out my spring striper gear and hit a few of my early spring haunts. In any case, I've been hitting a few of the local ponds the past couple of weekends and nailing the bass and pickerel. Of course it didn't hurt to use rubber frogs just when the frogs and toads were spawning. |
I bet it's a bass.

Coupla bass for sure. These were swimming around with some determination.
