E-tex demo @ plugfest..

I was toying with bringing my spinner.. but due to the size of the beast.. it's not practical... BUT... I have a rod dryer/ spinner i can spin a plug with..... if there is interest.. I'll bring enough stuff to do a live demo on covering a plug with 2 part snot...incuding my prep metheds and mixology..

I would be very interested in seeing a demo on E-tex. Thanks

I would love to see a demo

OK .. I'll make it happen.. I worked out the make shift spinner last night.. worked like a charm...

I'll do the demo @ 10:30 unless it interferes with something else or someone has a better idea..

Joe I have an inline spinner I can bring if you don't want to or can not fit it, you seem to be bringing a lot of stuff already, you need to leave room in the truck for Nancy :)

let me know

it's just a rod dryer/spinner screwed to a board...with an adjustable stand on the other side.. it takes no room..open air nothing over the top..

Joe I went over to your tables at 10:30 and you were busy talking to a few people. If I ended up missing your e-tex demo I'm sorry.

taJon 03-04-2012 11:34 AM

where are you getting the etex from? I've checked a couple local stores and haven't found it.

Joe it was my fault I missed it. Thanks for the invite I'll pm you in the next week or so and take you up on that offer. I also wouldn't mind taking some measurements of some the jigs you've built. I started making a few yesterday but I just didn't take enough measurements.

Thanks,
Mark

Quick question. I am refinishing a few old plugs and have some E-Tex from about 6 or 7 years ago that I never used, never even opened it. Anyway, does this stuff go "bad" and do I need to sand before applying? The plugs are all painted up and ready for a topcote. Thanks!

stripermaineiac 03-18-2012 08:14 PM

Epoxy will yellow more with age. I don't use any of them more than 3 yrs old for good finish. before I'd chance it on a plug or anything else mix some an try it on a scrap painted board to see what happens.

Rockfish9 03-19-2012 06:09 AM

one thing that does happen to it is crystyles form in the mixture with time.. you wont know if they are there until you pour the mixture... they will be in the resin part.

tlapinski 03-19-2012 07:38 AM

Thanks. I'll test out the mixture tonight to see how it has held up.

What about sanding before applying? Sorry if this is E-Tex 101. :smash:

Rockfish9 03-19-2012 08:05 AM

I never sand... but I only sand my plugs down to 120..

You can get rid of the crystals easily by placing the bottle in a dish of hot water. The warming up of the etex or any epoxy gets rid of those crystals. I have done it many times.

I've used epoxy 5-8 years old.

yup.. I should have mentioned that.. but I usualy dont find them until I plop them on my plug....:fury:...I always heat my epoxy.. sometimes , not often, they are rock hard and there is no converting them..

tlapinski 03-20-2012 07:38 AM

I mixed it up and coated the plugs last night, all went well. Thanks guys!
