A cape report

Fished the southside of cape cod for the past four days. The area from mashpee to east falmouth proved highly productive. Live herring at the estuary mouths produced many keepers between 28 and 35 inches. I did manage three between 20 and 25 pounds. I made runs to both middle ground and wasque on the vineyard, though both spots were unproductive. Fishing with the fly rod yeilded only schoolies, which was frustrating as fishing live bait in the same spots would yield an instant hit from a keeper sized bass. Water temperature in east falmouth was in the high 50's while at wasque, woods hole and middle ground the water temp was only 51 degrees. good luck!

congrats. what time/tide are you gettin them on?

KJLane 05-16-2003 04:22 PM

early morning. tide didn't really seem to be a factor. they hit on both an incoming and outgoing.

Thanks. I'll be out at first light tomorrow around Poponesset to see if I can catch my first striper of the year.

Oh Smitty,
Get the live ones, them boys won't pay attention to anythuing else for the next two weeks.
Notice no posts from BM right now, he's probabl;y slaying the big ones with them right now.
Later,
Rick

My supply of live herring hasnt been stolen in the past week so I'm good to go.

RickBomba 05-16-2003 09:51 PM

You gotta pen, give Ricky the number.
I'm serious.
Later Dude,
Rick

Smitty's Ice Cream 05-17-2003 09:07 PM

Rick: Number of what, the pen? I don't follow where you'e going with this...
Anyway, this morning [Saturday] I went out at 5:00am and it was way too cold out there so I headed back to the dock. Didn't even bother wetting a line.

off the shore i caught a bunch of schoolies today on the cape in a spot we found just poking around. scouting helps find good spots. fish hit small olive mambo minnow, my dad got some on a rebel and teaser. it was pretty windy and chilly and sunny, but we pulled through and caught plenty of fish.

Sorry Smitty,
Just a joking reference to all of the herring theft going on lately.:D
Anyhow, I spent the better part of an hour @ Watertown looking for herring just now...nothing!!!
I'll try harwich tomorrow. Rappin Mikey's down there now and he says the run is very spotty. He says he's getting a fish on every cast with the live ones @ Bass Hole. 2 keepers so far, lost of twinkies.
Hope I get some of the "magic" tomorrow, tonight definately wasn't happening.
Later,
Rick

Rick I got 2 in 2 hours there this afternoon. The was about 25 guys there. I would say that 10 might have been liscenced fishermen, the rest were not, and were hogging the run :af:

I hooked up with Basic Patrick, he was on his way home, he gave me the 15 he had left :) It's good to have friends.
