Google Map of Gansett Beach - Sunken Ship? ?

While investigating the shoreline from google map, saw a rather large dark rectangular object. I've heard there is a sunken vessel thereabouts. Imagine that is what I was viewing.

If you click a ships name, it will give you more details and lat/lon guidelines.

Unfortunately no.

Did some googlin'. Appears to be a sunken barge that may soon see the light of day, thanks to federal monies to remove her.

It's a barge. At mean low tide her deck Cleats are exposed. She holds Los of blackfish and is a popular spear fishing spot.

Nebe is right. It's pretty cool to be able to spearfish a small wreck right off the beach. If your standing at the cabanas it is at about 12:30/1 O'clock off the right side. I don't see why they need to remove it.

Waves break nicely off it at low tide, back in my town beach surfing days.

Although if I was surfing that far down the beach, I'd usually keep going to the rivermouth.

13 years ago when i moved to wakefield, i was swimming very close to that barge. I didnt know it was there and out of the corner of my eye, i spotted one of the cleats and almost shat myself... i thought it was a shark chasing a school of bluefish or something... I think they want to remove it because its a hazard to swimmers.

20 years ago we use to get schoolies all around the barge.

I gather there are many vessels on the bottom along the shores.
