Handcarve Stick Shad and Keeled Swimmer

A couple new handcarves both made from local basswood. The stick shad is 5oz rigged with 4/0s and splits... for the canal when the current is rippin'

I traced a 7.5" plastic stick shad in both side and vertical profiles... see pic, then used the tape method and my bandsaw to rough out the shape. I drilled the weight cavities before bandsawing... I use brass sinker eyes set in epoxy for the belly hook attachment and thru drill before bandsawing as well.

The keeled handcarve takes some of the bottom shape from the stick shadd and still uses a lip for a nice wriggle. This is rigged with 3/0s.
and weighs 3 1/8 oz.
