what kind of lures can i buy for stripers that arent too expensive to start off with and then maybe work my way up as i go .pictures of them would help too.

Bombers, Mambo Minnow's and Redfins, all the 7" kind are usually six or seven bucks each. They all produce too!

bucktails... white, chartreuse, wine.

Diawa SP minnows, cordell swimmers and pencils, tsunami swim shads. Of course you cant go wrong with anything from afterhours either...

All depends on where you are fishing and with what tackle. I completely agree with the bomber style lure - very easy to use, can be purchased anywhere, and work in many different places. I would also add Tsunami / Storm swim shads for the same reasons. I also like sluggos or similar type baits rigged either on lead heads or just with plain hooks. Lastly buy a some type of a metal spoon, either a Kastmaster, Hopkins, or better yet a Pt Jude. That will be for when you need to cast far and also for when the blues are around.

Not to steer you away from wood or anything like like and AH puts out some sweet stuff (in fact I just bought a herring colored pencil I can't wait to throw) and his needlefish are the first out of my bag but the above won't break the bank and can be used almost anywhere by any skill level.

I think the best advice is to look for a reputable tackle shop in the area, go there and ask your question. Say you don't want to spend a ton and mention where you plan on fishing. Good luck!

For the canal ...jigs with rubber tails like sluggos , fin S Fish a,d my favorite , 8 inch curl tails. Also surface swimmers work well at slack tide.

Go to M+D's in wareham , maybe 15 minutes from where you plan to fish , the owner Mike will tell you what's the hot lures at time.

m&d s is were i bought our set ups for salting.mike is the man for all info and tackle.

superstrike isnt too bad either, less than 20 bucks for some really great plugs. A little bit more than some of the others posted but still not too bad.

I pour my custom LedgeRunner plastics, so obviously my answer is simple; give me an assortment of jig heads from 3/8oz to 4oz and plastics from 4" to 9" and I can catch everything that swims in 1 foot of water or 100 foot. You can't get any more economical or versitle than that.

learn and master the bucktail....you will not be disappointed..alot more to it then most people realize

Storm shad lures- 5 or 6 inch- under 5 bucks for 4 lures....

Or a bucktail jig- white one ounce will catch under most conditions....
