Boat transport
Looking for an outfit to bring a 27' boat up from NC to Westport MA. If anybody can recommend an outfitthat is capable, please forward their contact info. Boat is on a '12 dual axle trailer.
Thanks,Chris |
Try Uship. (Kind of like Ebay but in reverse) Lots of small time operators (with dualies) will bid but some serious East coast boat transport companies willl also bid that do nothing but go from FL to NE and back.
The guy who moved my boat (Bradenton FL to New Bedford) to as well as a friends boat the following years was : US BOAT TRANSPORT |
There is a guy in Falmouth named Dana Smith who does this full time and is very reliable and responsible.

I used Uship to have my 21' Contender shipped from Mississippi to Marshfield. The guy i went with on Uship (forget his name) was great and really cheap. It was 2 1/2 years ago and was only like $850. When i proced it out it would have cost more for me do drive down and get it myself!! I also got an endorsement from my Insurance company for $75 and they covered the insurance on the boat trip up since I wasn't towing it (highly recommend that if the guy towing isn't fully insured.)

I did both...I had the company fax me the insurance policy and then bought my own one time policy thru my boat insurance as well...it was like 55 bucks if I remember. They will get in touch with the carrier and make sure everything is OK as to their coverage as well, at least mine did.
In the end, I did not use uship but I did find a carrier from uship that took my boat (32' wide load) and trailer, picked up both, put them both on his giant trailer and hauled it from FL to MA for 3K. This was money well spent IMO. Trailering rigs like this for long distances are a white knuckle event that my heart could do without. One thing, If you are having the boat hauled up on your trailer...MAKE SURE it is really road worthy. I mean perfect. These guys don't stop for much and they move. Most of them will check it and give it a quickie inspection but make sure your tires are pristine and the bearings are perfect. Those tires will get hot. If you have an inexperienced boat towing guy just hook you up and take off, it could end badly. One more thing...for cheap money you can rent a GPS tracking device and keep real time tabs on your boat as it goes A to B without the driver knowing. I did this and it comforting as well as entertaining. ( I got little done when it was in route, it sends you an email that is moving and then you log in and can track it live.) you can double click on the icon and get a google earth view of exactly where she is. When I got this I told the fellow I was tracking a boat in route... the fellow said most guys get them to track their wife or kids. I just rented it for the month. |
Yea, don’t use a fly by night for sure. The reason I mentioned the endorsement is a lot of people don’t know you can do that.
Uship has both experienced and fly by night so you do have to investigate a bit. The guy I went with had 200+ tows with 100% positive feedback (He also specialized in boats). I spoke with him and he was fully insured but I got the endorsement from my company anyway to play it safe. He wrapped the T-top and console in stretch wrap to keep the bug splats at a minimum. He took the prop off for the trip too. Even the guy I bought the boat from told me how impressed he was with the guy (wish I could find his info for you). He had a GPS tracker and I could go online to see where he was at any time. He also called each day to let me know how things were going. My trailer is a double axel and one of the tires had a flat the first night, no problem as this guy carries spare trailer tires with him in different sizes. He was a true professional. The reason I got a great deal is that he hauled another boat from Florida to Louisiana and his next haul was to pull a boat from the Cape down to Florida. I had posted my need to have a boat from Mississippi brought up to Mass. Since he was deadheading it up to Mass anyway, he took my job for really short money. I not only lucked out on the price but got a quality guy as well. Good luck! |
Ok what did you buy? Lets see some pics
