So everyone loves this bait and no one can get them... Lets see the painted epoxied sticks...Does the epoxy hamper the action? Do you think the missing glow paint really matters? Why do big bass love the damn thing so much?:fishin:

I repainted one in solid white, fishes & catches just fine. My theory is the fish are reacting to the flash of the white lure given off by the bright white sides. I dud some 1 to 1 comparisons one day on an american shad vs gold shadd. Didnt have a ghost on me as it had swam off in a fish. Anyway, throwing the AS color whuch is mainly white landed several fish, the gold wouldnt draw a strike. Tested in both day and night. Hook on the AS, switch right to the gold and nothing, put the AS back on and catch. I compare it to Frech's results on the banana plug. His besr color (so I heard) was solid white.

tlapinski- Did you epoxy it or just paint and fish it.

I didnt notice a change in the action. When i applied the epoxy the sebile was warm from a heat gun so it was applied very thin. Put it on the spinner and let her dry. No complaints as of yet.
The prepping was not bad either. Popped the eyes off and sanded it down with 220(I think) grit sandpaper. Primed and painted it with Createx.

Don't overlook a large white darter. I did real good last week in canal on a large Pichney copy I made over winter in white. Got a very similar action, even better IMO, but in a strong current I'd take the stick shad. Fish I got were caught an hour either side of slack. I do have 2 of the glow white colors in my bag too. Luv them too. I"ll feel bad if I do loose them as they were given to me by Bob Samuleson for a trade for plugs I made him, but I do use them. I did cast off a magic swimmer last week and that sucked. White has been my fav color for several years now.

We'll see how they fish... A gentlemen next to me the other day was doing just as good as me with his spray can painted stick shad..I bet my copies will work just as much.

I used a light coat of E-Tex, probably didn't really need it. No problems that I have noticed.

Those look nice, I saw a guy using one at the canal on Saturday. Can't believe how expensive they are holy :fury:

the floating ones have the best action ive found. My buddy broke one off the other day. ouchhhhh. you can just see the depression settling in when it happens lol.

What are your guys' takes on the hook placements?

I kno ppl that add another split ring and keep only the middle treble. I know one guy that goes split ring, barrel swivel, split ring to hook...
I think it takes a little away from the action though. personally I keep both hooks but obviously change the split rings and hooks.

I have been fishing them this way this season. Don't seem to lose much action, if any.

It's insane that Sebile (Pure Fishing) doesn't make that color anymore. They say it's too expensive but with the pricetags we're seeing in the shops, their profit margin has to be up in the stratosphere! The glow in the dark paint is useless anyway if you ask me, if they just made a white one or a pearl one we'd all be back in business. The guy from Red Top told a buddy of mine that they sold something like $20,000 worth of that color stick shad over a two year period--if that doesn't tell them that it's worth it to revisit and perhaps revise the color, than nothing will.

On the subject of Stick Shad color, I find that the herring color (Blue/pink/white w/ spots) seems to catch just as well as white.

AND if you want to paint your sticks, sand them liberally with 150 grit and spray them with Zinsser's BIN primer. It's a shellac-based white, it dries fast and sticks very aggressively to any tough surface. I dip raw jigheads in it and it holds up better than powder paint! Epoxying them will only make it harder to recoat. Just fish the plug and give it a fresh coat of BIN when it starts to look nasty. Easy, tough and effective.
